Peter - couldn't agree more.

Parents are responsible for their own children.

My cousin's daughter once said when asked if she wanted anymore children
"I don't think Mum could cope with more than 2 every weekend"

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Aug 2010 22:51

my understanding was that new members were assigned membership numbers running consecutively, no matter whether they were free or paying

If you were a free member and then upgraded to paying, the number didn't change, just your staus

and similarly if you stopped paying, GR just downgraded you to Free status, but didn't change the number

so there is something quite weird going on!

I shall have to ask Janey!

some time

sleep tight all you sleepy bonces :))))

Re membership:

I joined in Dec 2004, I expect like a lot of people I just registered, played a little with the beginnings of a tree, (known family) then left it.

So you might say it’s an old number, but I am very much a newbie.

Bits that are obvious to you all, even simple abbreviations are not always obvious to a newbie. Yes they make sense when you’re told what they mean but until then, you’re in the dark.

Finding your way around a software system, is not always obvious, you have to try things and see what they do.

Now I think of myself as reasonably intelligent… not like Ginny (AE), work that one out! Or the lady Irene,, great with maths or Fan’s, well sort of welsh. But the average sort of bod. I started with a Sinclair ZX80 computer, which I built. Went on to the good BBC micro on which I wrote a Data base program which did all but budgets for work, which worked better than the £20 million room sized computer the Boots Co. had for accounting.

So I can’t be all that daft……. But you still have to learn new…. Always onward, always forward. No I’m not a programmer… I was playing.

I’m not into reading books, so reading threads on ‘How to do this and that’, doesn’t come easy to me… I have to do it, ask daft questions, and learn that way.

Enough waffle

Morning all
