The belief was that GR did not re-cycle or re-use numbers .... they just assigned numbers consecutively to new members, and never took any out of circulation ......................... and that is why they can say they have 11 million members (or whatever it is upto now).



so looking at the number has up to now been a sure fire way of knowing whether you were dealing with a newbie, and therefore to take a littl bit of care with them.
