I have Robert Cock born 1689 in Clackmannan Perthshire, he married Euphan Ruthven, they had 7 children one of whom was Charles Cock born 1786 in Alloa Clackmannan. Does anyone know any other details please, I know that in 1815 he lived in Ashton=under=Lyne Lancashire but do not know when he left Scotland. Later in the Census the name became COX so obviously a spelling error way back. Joyce Cox |

Gretna seemed an odd place to marry when she lived all her life in London as I belive back then you had to take residence for about 3 weeks before you could marry,,,,,,I dont know how Gretna marriage work from back then as they didnt come under any Scots ruling or English and anyone could marry you,,,as long as two witnesses oversee it, there was usually a qoue to do this as they charged the couple !!!!!((thats now changed))perhaps they divorced and she went back to her maiden name,? |
