Morning everyone

Oh my - what a lot of postings there are on this one for me to read through. It didn't matter then that I was AWOL for my late night one.

Sylvia - glad you liked Mr. Cellophane. My early (although today not so early) walk is generally around the time people are beginning to make their way to work and I see the same ones. I try a smile - many do not smile back, others even look away. However, there is one lady who lives up the road who always gave a beaming smile back. One day I did a very un-English thing. I stopped her and told her how much I appreciated her lovely smile and wished more people would be like her. I get an even bigger smile now.

Do not want to be the bearer of bad news but Sylvia I do not think perfumes and toilet waters last very long at all. Go off I believe. Do not know about the other items. I thought we had too many unnecessary rules & regulations in the UK but seems Canada is even worse if you're told not to wear scented stuff. You're probably too nice but I think I would have a word with the receptionist or, preferably the Practice Manager, about the perfumed soap. Cannot have one rule for us and one for them!

I bought a book in a charity shop recently - had high hopes of a good read. Sadly disappointed - not enjoying it at all. Do not like to give up though - I'll try to get to the end of it - and then it can go back there in the hope someone else might find it entertaining.

Ginny. My thought for the day is - you're lucky. JB is actually thinking about what you're saying. Currently in my household I'm not sure son even HEARS what I'm saying - let alone thinks about it:-)))

Michael - luckily I do not seem to have caused any confusion. I just thought she might have inferred it was a sly message which, of course, it wasn't but it can be quite easy to misconstrue things when they are posted rather than hearing them said. Realise I have been guilty of misconceptions - for which my apologies.

maybe

and scent-free includes:-

perfumes
hair sprays
deodorants and anti-perspirants
talcum
etc
etc

it always makes me laugh when I go to my doctor's office

Big sign at the receptionist's desk saying "This is a Scent-free Zone, please do not wear perfumed ......"

yet I will have just been to the washroom across the hall

....... and they have the most vilely perfumed soap in the dispensers in there!

Jeanie ............... I liked reading the words to Mr Cellophane!

The last couple of birthdays, anniversaries and last Christmas ..... OH has said "Go out and buy yourself something that you want, put it on my credit card, and I'll pay for it"

For Christmas ................. I bought myself 5 books, all just released ones by my favourite authors.

He made it a bit of a surprise on Christmas Day because we went away for the holiday, and took only a couple of gifts with us ....... so I had no idea which 2 of the 5 books I would get to open.

Problem really is ..................... after being married for so long, I have loads of jewellery, I never wear perfume these days, and really have everything that I might need (other than as a replacement)

Wearing perfume is getting to be more of a no-no over here. More and more places have signs saying "scent-free zone"

In Halifax, NS, where daughter lives, all public buildings (including theatres and cinemas, and schools) are scent-free zones.

Plus son-i-l is allergic to "smells" .................... and I began by cutting back on my use of perfume and scented handcream when around him

I have a drawerful of my 3 favourite perfumes ........ scents, toilet water, talc, hand cream.

I wonder how long they will last for????

You're right, of course you're right.
Next time I'll ask for your suggestions BEFORE the event.

Will check out Susan's thread and see what confusion you had caused Jeanie.

Oh dear - did I just post the lyrics to Mr. Cellophane on the wrong Michael thread or didn't I press submit? Silly old me.

Think I'll have to get my head examined:-))) I was even sillier - I put it on Sylvia's. Hope she will not mind.

NOooooooooooo. In my book that is even worse than the kettle. The "i" word is frowned on:-)))

Ok Ok I get the message......
I've just heard her say she needs a new iron - would that be a better idea ?

Hi folks

Household items (unless requested of course) ugh!! I have a very dear elderly friend (yes - I've got some) sends me a little gift for Xmas. Always been happy before but must confess last Xmas I was a little disappointed to find oven gloves!

Michael - although I DO love musicals I've pretty well missed out on Chicago - think I caught a little bit of it on TV late one night but switched off to go to bed. I'll have to look up Mr. Cellophane. Is there a Miss or Mrs Cellophane? Sounds like a pretty good Community Name to adopt:-))) I'll have to Google it.

Heard on the news yesterday that Paris Hilton was arrested in SA for having drugs. This morning news said charges had been dropped. Wonder how many people will think she was just lucky to get away with it???

Mike * Report 2 Jul 2010 23:28

No kettle yet .... she couldn't decide on one she liked... what's to like ????

She has a garden full of flowers and she can't make me a brew with a bouquet.

.......I can hear the tutting from here !

Dozey

Dozey Report 2 Jul 2010 13:53

I'd shove it there as well Michael. What about a huge, lovely bouquet of flowers. Must say although I've had them from others never had any at all from the exOH:-)))

Sylvia,
She could stock Boots with toiletries and perfume, not a reader and I've already done the jewellery bit to death every birthday and christmas... some of which are still in the boxes...
Nope,.... kettle it is then.

Hi Jeanie

we have showers here .............. and this is a National Holiday

Canada Day ...... Canada's 143rd birthday

All kinds of OUTDOOR events planned everywhere across Canada

I think most other places are having better weather than us in Vancouver though!! I have the heating turned on in this room AGAIN, and it was raining hard when I first woke up about 6 am!

Queen Elizabeth and Philip are in Ottawa, attending the National Party to help us celebrate.

They arrived in Canada on Monday.

So far she has attended an International Fleet Review in Halifax (Canada's navy is 100 years old this year so all manner of foreign navies are visiting), planted 2 trees (one in Halifax and 1 in Ottawa), and unveiled a statue in Ottawa of the late great jazz pianist Oscar Peterson.

Then it will be on to Winnipeg, Waterloo Ontario and finally Toronto.

There is no way that woman is 84!!! Or that he is 89.

Michael, ................ see you on Gin's new thread, same title, same board.

Thanks for your wishes Jeanie.
The planned day by the seaside has been scuppered due to rain so settling for lunch out.
Cheers.
