I have been lead to believe that John Pike died in 1870. |

Coralie if you mean John Pike the father who we think could have been born 1823, you won't find a birth cert ofr him as records did'nt start until 1837 and it was'nt compulsary to reg a birth untill 1875 when they brought out a fine if you did'nt register a birth. |

if I could find the vol and page number for john pike's birth certificate I would order that to find out his parents, but I don't seem to be able to find it. |

Your next step should be to buy George Walter William Pike's birth certificate. This will give you his father's occupation and his mother's name. If George's father died when George was very young then he may have been unsure of his father's occupation. From the census records George looks to have been a servant living - in in 1881 so was not even living with his mother. |

In 1841 and 1851 there are two John Pikes in the St. Thomas registration district both appear to have a father named John and both appear to be born in the same year. |

Coralie say she has John's death cert - presumably his age is on it - thus her search for someone born c1812. |

I still think that there is quite a big age gap between John and Elizabeth and I think without actually buying the certificates that are available you cannot be sure that John James Pike 1812 is George's father. With an age gap like that you could be missing a generation. |
