Thanks for reply Liz, we don't know if there was anyone that knew her by the name of Topsy as she got older, but she was very good at keeping things seperate. We didn't know of it until we went through her things. We didn't know she had any of her cousins around until her diamond wedding anniversary when we met them. That was in 1993. Sadly by the time we've found out things they have passed on too. Kind Regards, Tricia. |

Hi again Liz, perhaps Alice was american as on a couple of her post cards she says that Topsy's cousin in America had sent her a post card but then another post card franked in Surrey she says she is busy with the company. Our daughter says we will never find out but I would like to give it a good go. Thank you for being so kind and helpful.Kind Regards, Tricia. |

Hi Liz,found the registered envelope but doesn't have an address from Davids ( my husbands)grandfather ( Harry ) but post mark is Bournemouth. We know he lived in bournemouth until his death in 1964. We believe that Alice and Harry did part but do not know when.We also believe that Topsy went to live with her grandparents in New Street, Crawley when she was two or three. We know that Alice probably went to America without Harry as we have a letter that Davids mother sent to her father notifying him of Alices death in America. Kind Regards, Tricia. |

Hello again Liz, Harry Thayre was born december 1882 and him and Alice Lee married April1908. Their daughter Beatrice Frances Winifred ( Topsy ) was born at Broadbridge Heath, Horsham in September 1908. My husband and his sister grew up knowing and visiting their grandfather. I have mislaid a registered envelope that my husbands grandfather ( Harry )sent to my husband on his birth and I wanted to check the address. Harry lived in Bournemouth until his death in the sixties. Will try and find out if my sister-in-law can remember when he went there. My husband went into the Navy in the fifties so he doesn't remember anything like that. Kind Regards, Tricia. |

Hello Liz, Thank you for your hard work. I looked through post card book last night and some of the post cards were not franked so can only think they were sent in envelope or taken to her.The latest franked ones were two in January 1912 posted in Sutton. The post cards were full of love for her daughter and Alice also seemed to be on good terms with her mother-in-law (Kate). We found out that my Husbands mother was called Topsy after we cleared her house.Too late to ask her about it.On the post cards it was not until she was maybe threeish. No one new her real name was Beatrice either.Only knew her as Frances Winifred. Tricia. |

Hello again, I have realised that I don't think I have said that Alice's maiden name was Lee. Some of the feed back has shown her maiden name but sorry for being remiss. A copy of the possible matches of emigration in 1911 will be appreciated please. I will unearth the post cards just to check that there are definately cards dated 1912 and post marked this country. Many thanks, Tricia. |

Hi again, we have a post card book that belonged to my husbands mother that contained some cards from her mother(Alice) who obviously from the content loved her very much, but they are only up to 1912. Possibly there were some after that date but not that we found. Most were post marked Sutton in Surrey. In one she talks about very busy in the business. Her mother-in-law (my husbands mothers grandmother) was called Kate Thayre nee Charlwood. Many Thanks for help so far. Tricia. |

I'm having trouble finding a family that fits what you know. You mention a mother in law with the daughter. |
