Looks like Maurice and Julia's marriage?
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Dec 1886 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- O'Brien Maurice Swansea 11a 1120 Shanahan Julia Swansea 11a 1120
So your wifes Gran could have been sent to the Shanahan family...... I would hazard a guess that she went to Ireland to be with them rather than the O'Brien family??

Hi Patrick,
I can't see any other siblings born after 1911 (from this date it included the mothers maiden name on the birth registration), but there were possible births prior to 1911.... unfortunately there are quite a few to pick from in Swansea.

Just read your last reply Dee, fair play, amazing stuff. All fits into place. Will try to make contact on Ancestry and will have a look at the 1911 census.
Patrick.

Thanks for the replies Dee and Kay. I reckon Dee found her, my wife thinks Swansea and the name Llewellyn rings a bell. Julia's sisters wrote to her years later and we know she went to see them in Wales once. Unfortunately the letters went missing and so Julia's daughters haven't been able to make contact with maybe their first cousins to learn more about their Welsh past. One of Julia's daughters lives close by and we'll see does the name Minnie sound familiar. I don't suppose there are any other siblings with the same parents listed anywhere? Thanks again for the help.
Patrick :-)

Hi everyone,
am trying to help my wife find out about her grandmother Julia O'Brien born 31st July 1920 somewhere in Wales. Her mother died when Julia was about 2 years old and her father sent her to Waterford in Ireland to relatives. Unfortunately we don't know her parent's names or her relatives in Ireland. We know that she definitely had older sisters who remained in Wales, not sure about older brothers. Would there be any passenger lists from Britain to Ireland that might have her name on it? Know it's very little to go on but any help would be grateful.
Thanks, Patrick
