I have been trying to use logical trial and error with other names in 1911 searches but haven't managed to get the right combination!
Now taking the easy way out and asking if anybody can give me her family in 1911 please.

Thank you Vera, Kathleen and Moody Blue. I can boast finding father William K 1867 and sister Hilda but hadn't tried Dorothy, Phyllis or Jennie - not seen a marriage to Jennie either yet........ next job.
Perhaps I gave up too easily!

Kath could you please explain your method 'cos my doing it for free seems to be missing out?

I put the name Marie Nichols living Leeds into the homepage search box. Only one comes up (born 1903).

Then click on the green "search again" button on the bottom right of the page.

When the next page comes up take the first name "Marie" out of the search box and put in Marie Nichols at the bottom where it says "other members of household".

The other Nichols living with Marie should come up.

If you search using a person's year of birth you have to take this out too on the second search.

Hope you can understand this - it sounds complicated but it's quite easy really.

This is confusing and I'm not sure whether there are two families mixed up here.

On the 1911 census it says William and Jennie are married 12 years.

That would make for the marriage being in 1899.

There is only one marriage then:-

This would suggest the names are Williaam F. Nichols and wife Jane as per the 1901 census.

The only marriage for a William K. Nichols is in 1892:-

Just checked image ....Jennie...but the enumerator could have heard it wrong...unless they filled it out themselves.

If you are certain that the Marie Elizabeth Nichols who was born Leeds in 1903 is the person you are looking for then I agree with you that you need to buy her birth certificate.

Yes Kath, I have been looking at your 1901 census which has William Frederick as Drapers assistant (as William K is in 1911) but there is no registration in FreeBMD of a Phyllis in 1901, only Hilda. Perhaps they changed their minds after the census and kept the name Phyllis until 1906.....?
Hopefully the birth certificate will have mother Jane Booth.

I'm still not convinced that the William K. Nichols in the 1911 census shouldn't actually be William F. Nichols. It says on the 1911 census that the couple have been married 12 years - but that would be wrong for William K. Nichols but right for William F. Nichols.

If you decide to buy the birth certificate please come back and let us know who Marie's parents actually were.

I still think we may be mixing up two families who have used similar names for their children.
