When I looked at the extract of John's death today it looks like the mother's name may have been Margaret Rae. |

I'm fairly certain his mother was Mary Dow, I'm positive the death cert says Dow not Rae (if you look at the D in Drummond and although it is very faint it is definitely the same D for the first letter of the maiden name)......None of his children appear to have been called Margaret, although that doesn't mean one wasn't and we just don't know of her. As you have said Tom the information on certificates is only as good as the Informant's memory (in this case his son) |
