I've just had another look for the family on the 1861 census- I suspect they are missing from it.
I presume this is Mary & family in 1851:
1851 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription Bank Side, Halifax, Yorkshire, England
John Hunt - - Male 42 1809 Ag Lab Ireland Ann Hunt - - Female 40 1811 At Home Ireland Patrick Hunt Son - Male 18 1833 Worsted Spinner Ireland Mary Hunt Daughter - Female 15 1836 Worsted Spinner Ireland Peter Hunt Son - Male 10 1841 Worsted Spinner Ireland John Hunt Son - Male 2 1849 Worsted Spinner Leicestershire, Catharine Morgan (Mugan) Lodger Unmarried Female 16 1835 Worsted Spinner Ireland Ellen Burk Lodger Widow Female 44 1807 At Home Ireland Mary Burk Lodger Unmarried Female 19 1832 Worsted Spinner Ireland Honey Burk Lodger - Female 13 1838 Worsted Spinner Ireland Patrick Rayney Lodger Married Male 45 1806 Ag Lab Ireland Nancy Rayney Wife Married Female 45 1806 Small Ware Hawker Ireland Michael Rayney Son Unmarried Male 13 1838 Worsted Spinner Ireland Thomas Rayney Son - Male 8 1843 At Home Ireland Patrick Rayney Son - Male 0 1851 At Home Ireland -------------------------------
and her parents in 1871:
1871 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription 27 Bank Side, Southowram, Halifax, Yorkshire, England
John Hunt Head - Male 60 1811 - Ireland Ann Hunt Wife - Female 60 1811 - Ireland Mary Gaughan Boarder - Female 16 1855 - Ireland --------------------------------------------
Number 27 Bank Side is on a missing page on the 1861 census. House numbers jump from 12 to 30. So if Mary and William were living with her parents in 1861 they won't be found.

Steven-
It would be easier with the details of that marriage certificate- you seem unsure if his father was Michael- also none of William's children were names Michael.
Father's name/ occupation, William's age/ occupation/ address, and names of witnesses could all help in identifying the correct William.
Without those details it feels like we'd be guessing. Do you have the family in 1861?
As Thomas was born and Halifax and died there it would be reasonable to assume they were still in the area then.
Death GALVIN, THOMAS age: 4 GRO Reference: 1865 J Quarter in HALIFAX Volume 09A Page 294 ------------------------------------------------
They were previously living in York- possible son Martin born & died 1859:
Birth: GALVEN, MARTIN (Mother's maiden name: HUNT ) GRO Reference: 1859 J Quarter in YORK Volume 09D Page 26
Death: GALVIN, MARTIN age: 4 (months) GRO Reference: 1859 S Quarter in YORK Volume 09D Page 24

Thanks so much for your time, I have most of this information, the death record ive never seen before and very interesting, where did you find this record. Unfortunatly it still doesn't say where in Ireland William was from. Years ago I did order the wedding cert, which I cant now find now but it only said he was from Ireland , I believe it did say his father was Michael but were a lot William and Michael galvins in Ireland at that time, which why I thought a more specific place might help

Halifax Courier - Saturday 05 August 1854
Aug 1 at the Catholic Chapel Halifax, by the Rev, James Hostage, Mr William Galvin to Miss Mary Hunt, both of Southowram. --------------------------------------
South Yorkshire Asylum, admission records First name(s) William Last name Galvin Sex Male Birth year 1826 Age 60 Status/occupation Labourer Admission year 1886 Admission date 04 Sep 1886 Institution Middlewood Hospital, Sheffield Cause of insanity From a fit Outcome died Death year 1886 Discharge/removal/death date 16 Nov 1886 Residence Halifax County Yorkshire ------------------------------------------------
It might help if you ordered their marriage certificate to find out his father's name.
A tree on Ancestry has his father as Michael- but you would need the marriage certificate to confirm this.
You can order the marriage certificate here: https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/menu.asp
