Cynthia how are you.in answer to your q uestions A yes i have drawn my tree (Horne), but it is horriblely stuffed up. as only i can doNot understanding that we are only looking for the Hornes ,i merrily went on my way entering all of the other side,my mothers(Beveridges) and my husbands aswell.i have even entered one of Sydney Georges daughters name Dulcie May twice. what a mess but my cousin will straighten me out on that one without too many arm punches,i told you when i stuff up i do a really good job!c I took your advice and looked all of the Lorraines back to about feb 2009. none of them mention any of the names that AuntySherlock or JaneyCanuck mentioned mainly about Irish rels nothing associated with what we are looking for.i did as you asked and entered Floria Horne into the search box and came back 0. i think that the Floria TV Horne has been born in Australia/what State and her husband Whittaker Charles F as well but by this time her given name was Stanaway.to me the mystery deepens as Janey has given me death notices.As to their family i will have wait until theJoy Murrin Transcripts arrive.thank you for your help.Janice

a) how you are getting on with putting your tree down on paper - have you done that yet?


b) Did you see the advice about putting the Whittaker thread details on to this thread?


c) I hope I am not going over old ground here, but have you tried putting Floria Horne into the white search box at the top of the page? I did, and it shows that someone called Lorraine on this site has Floria in her tree. If you do the same as me, you can try and contact Lorraine and find out what the connection is.

Hi Janice, I've spent my day away from the computer searching through old fashioned books and fiche records. Think I need to take my bed there and stay overnight because I need lots more time at it.

DET and Cynthia have given good advice. You do need to hasten slowly and put your tree together first.

However I too am one for going off on a tangent. I like to keep several pots boiling at the same time. There is no reason why you should not put your new search on this thread. Just remember our conversation about living people. There are experts here who can tell you what strategies to use to find living people. The chances of you finding living people are improved by your contacting those on the GR search trees.

As we explained as soon as you add something the thread will move back up the board to the top and people will look to see what has been added. This is all about your family and it often helps if the information is kept together. Printing it or cutting and pasting it to a Word document is also a sensible idea.

Also think about an offline tree. Legacy is one which can be downloaded for free. It is quite good and there are lots of interesting things you can do with it. However I found it a bit of a challenge to learn how to use. Takes a little patience.

So, from the Impossible Mission Team. Your tasks are:

Go through the information on this thread.
Add it to your tree.
Look for the gaps in the information.
Work out what transcripts you need (or certificates) to fill those gaps.
Ask on this thread for additional information.

Put your new search information on this thread.
Be careful of naming living people. Try the Search trees icon first.

Well Janice, you've come on in leaps and bounds since we were in touch last week haven't you? Well done you!


JaneyC and AuntyS have really worked wonders with your family and you must be so pleased. It is fun to do isn't it?


However, like AuntyS says, take it slowly and write it all down till it looks and 'feels' right. Do you have an offline tree at all - such as Family Tree Maker as it's always best to have a back up in case things get lost on the internet tree.


I'm not that good at things yet, but I found it really helpful to take one branch of the family at a time and get them 'right' in my brain so that I could remember who was who. I got really impatient and wanted to rush, but it just wasn't worth it because I made mistakes.


Anyway, I'm so glad it's all coming together for you.


To be honest, I am not sure you should start another thread at the moment because there is enough going on on here to keep you busy and, everytime sometime like myself adds to this thread, it goes back to the top of the board to be seen again but see what AuntyS says - when she finished whatever it is she's doing!!!

AuntySherlock, when she recovers from her adventures today, will probably say, try not to take it too personally. Unfotunately a number of people just 'demand' and NEVER say please and thank you which can be quite irritating! You have explained your self quite well in your later post, so the debate should be at rest.

If you wanted to, you could always delete the Whittaker thread, (delete your first post) and start again with Australia in the title and explain in your post that you do have another thread running about the ancestors but that you are looking for living descendents. That should stop people covering the same ground as here.

What ever you do, DO NOT DELETE THIS ONE or AS and JC will have your guts for garters - lol

Aunty Sherlock,hi oboy! you must have been sitting for hours to get all of that information,and while i was asleep! i am up and away now with information which i will follow up.the leslie bede Horne did marry Dora May from Annandale dbut was always called May.i remember now because when my father died the police came to the nurses quarters where i was doing my 4 yrs training to become a registered nurse,theygave me Uncle Leslie`s adress in Lidcombe to pick up the key to my fathers flat and empty it.that was were i first auntyMay and 2 cousins a boy also called Leslie and a girl i think her name was Lorraine.i took my Charlie with me and he helped mum refused to be involved she was very angry with both the police for finding me,and the other family for not just doing it themselves.Iwalked through that flat and also the empty house in Bede stLidcombe it was so quiet.My father also brought a block of land(crown land)at a place up near me called Umina. i also had to dispose of that at18 yrs old what did i know?he had partly built the house but was900 pounds in arrears with land taxes the soliciter advsed me tolet it go(i bet he brought it) shortly after that ihad a mental collapse was hospitalised for 12weeksdue to the pressure ofit allandtrying to studyand stillwork my shifts. i forgot a lot of things i went back to work after4months and was having trouble remembering simple things .the DR explained it was the brains way of coping aftera lot of stress and mum would not shutup and leave me alone thank god for my Charlie he was my only support .but we got through it,Ifinished my training,we marriedand had our own family and i concentrated on just being the best mum that i could be.it must have been ok because they still love mum and dad.thanksonce again for your help and supportregards Janice.ps i will also thank the others and then go to bed

Hi Janice, Now it is over to you. I think you have enough information to begin sorting out your history. Take your time and go through all the information.

Write it down in tree form or put it directly onto your GR tree. GR does not have the best trees in the world but it will help you sort the information.

Take care where someone does not fit. They might not be one of your rellies.

Make notes where there are gaps.

When you find gaps or need clarification come back to this thread and ask questions.

Your gaps will also show you where you need certificates/transcripts. Remember transcripts have the same information (or less if you only need part of a certificate), and are not as expensive.

When you have this sorted you will know whether you wish to go any further. You may be satisfied with having the answers to your quest, or this might start an adventure to discover more.

Keep your thread going. Each time you put something on a thread it moves itself up to the first page of the board. This thread will always appear in my My Threads list, because I have posted on it. If anyone suggests you delete this thread please talk to Janey or myself first.

Your certificates. There is a cut off date in Australia for accessing BDM information of a historical nature. However if you need to obtain your parents certificates you are able to apply to the Registrar of BDM for those certificates. How to do this is on the NSW BDM web site for which you have the link.

I've had a chance to read through now -- had just wanted to get that info copied into this thread in case my Firefox went crash and I lost it.

For the ancestral part, which I think you're interested in, Janice --

I would be fairly confident that the Jessie Rye whose census info I posted on the previous thread is your Jessie married to John Horne. The census shows her as born about 1850 in "Southice" (a misreading of Southsea), Hampshire.

Two people here at GR have Jessie Rye born 1850 in Southsea, Hampshire. If I have found the right Jessie Rye for you, those people would probably be relations of yours in some way.
