Hello Mhairi,
I know you were busy so I presume you didn't get a chance to look at my request.
I was just wondering whether you kept a list or whether I would need to ask again in the future?
Sorry if this sounds presumptuous, i just don't want to pester you again with the same info if you already kept it.
Many thanks :)

Hi Jan,
This is the money bit..........if you register with the following website which is where all the Scottish records are kept for online perusal, you can search for free and will be told how many matches are available. It's very user friendly unlike the English system........nothing personal ;))
Payment is required to view search results and certificates. £6.00 for 30 credits 1 credit to view page of search results up to about 24 per page. 5 credits to view certificate online which is downloadable, saveable and always available to view again whenever you login
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
Here's one I did earlier of female marriages in Lesmahagow 1920-1940 and you will probably see what could be a couple of yours. You would have to pay the 5 credits to view and check the certificate. Just make sure dates and ages make sense before paying your credits.
This page cost 1 credit.
Good luck.

Hi Mhairi,
Thank you so much for that infromation, the infromation that i gave you was from my mum and it was just what she could remember. we also got the infromation off Mary's head stone in New Zealand that is where we got the george s taylor. But the infromation you have given me sounds like the right family. do you know if mary had and brothers and sisters, mum said she was sure her sister was maggie. any way once agin thank you very much for all your hard work Carole Nicholson

Thanks for that post Frank :)
Jan, there was several Grierson children born around the same time with silmilar sound names so not all the marriages will be yours. I definately saw at least two Mary McMillans.
Out at the moment but will pm you when I get home Squirrel.

Carole
What you need to do for me is get her parents marriage cert from Scotlandspeople and then find them on the census (1891 & 1901), give me names and possible birth dates/places of any siblings and then I could look them up for you.
Without those it'll be a bit of a needle in a haystack search since her last name is Wilson

Hi Carole,
There are 3 matches for Maggie Wilson 1882-1892 in Aberdeen, Peterhead.......nothing for a Margaret.
1 match for a marriage of George Wilson & Jessie Mutch marriage showing up as Aberdeen, Peterhead 1882.
This is the money bit..........if you register with the following website which is where all the Scottish records are kept for online perusal, you can search for free and will be told how many matches are available. It's very user friendly unlike the English system........nothing personal ;))

Join up, it costs nothing to search and you can narrow down the matches by changing the areas and dates.

OOOh Carole, I've a very distant connection to someone called Mutch from Peterhead. I don't know her first name lol and it's far too early for your relatives, it's more of an ancestor of one of my relations rather than mine.
There used to be a very good site by Wade Buchan called Peterhead genealogy but it doesn't look like it's still available.
Just wanted to say echo Frank's point in that Scotlandspeople is very good for Birth Marriages and deaths. I wish they had a subscription for census records like ancestry though as I think searching census records is more costly,

Not at all Frank, and thank you for your kind words :)
I like it when other people help, as long as they dont take over. You've always given good advice and, which I think is the way to go, talked to people about how to go about searching for themselves!
I'm more than happy to look things up for people (especially when its a common name or recent date) but I think there is nothing better than finding the information yourself after a shove in the right direction and a safetynet of people behind you to help you out if you get stuck with something :)
ps one website recommendation - scotfamtree.11.forumer.com great wee website with loads of very knowledgable people, records and resources for Scotland, England, Ireland(!), USA, Canada and Australia (as well as many others) including MI's and directories, as loads of other stuff. Great people too :)

Thanks Guy's for all your help and Infromation. I took your advise Mhairi and went on soctlands people and found the census for George Wilson and Jessie Mutch and found that my Great Grand Mother Mary Wilson has a sister maggie and a brother William. This Journey has been very exciting mum and I were up till 1am this morning seaching. We also found George and Jessies parents and family. So once again a big thank you.
I was just Wondering if you could give me some advice on how to proceed with my Dads tree I know that my Great Grand father was JosephGeorge McCleland born in Ireland 1878 about he died in New Zealand in 1950 aged 83 I know that he married Isabella Elisibeth who died in 1898 giving birth we think. Then he married Mary agnes Oak we think he married his second wife in New Zealand

Hi Carole :)
Glad you've had luck with Mary and her family (and her parents family) Is genealogy stuff gets adictive, doesnt it?
Ireland is a tricky place to search as, at the moment, they dont have a lot of resources online.
You'll get Joseph's marriage to Mary Agnes here - https://www.bdmhistoricarecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/
They married in 1904.
By the looks of it, Isabella Elizabeth died in NZ as well, in 1903. Her death is also on the above website. Looks like one child from that marriage (in 1898) and two from the second.
I was going to suggest searching the 1911 and 1901 Irish census but looks like they wheren't there so no point searching there.
I've had a look on the LDS pilot record search, but couldnt see a Joseph George McCleland birth around 1878.
There is
Name: Male McLelland Registration District: Sligo Event Type: BIRTHS Registration Quarter and Year: Jul - Sep 1879
Name: Joseph Watson MClelland Registration District: Monaghan Event Type: BIRTHS Registration Quarter and Year: Oct - Dec 1879
Name: Joseph Cleland Registration District: Downpatrick Event Type: BIRTHS Registration Quarter and Year: 1876
Name: Male McClelland Registration District: Newtownlimavady Event Type: BIRTHS Registration Quarter and Year: 1875
Name: Male McClelland Registration District: Armagh Event Type: BIRTHS Registration Quarter and Year: 1876

I keep saying to mum we will just finish this off and them ring the family back home with the infromation we have found. We still havent rung home LOL
Once again thanks for your help you are just wonderful
Cheers Carole

Hi Eringobragh
I'm afraid this thread is closed now but I can give you some pointers. General registration did not start in Scotland til 1855 and it was not compulsary before that to have a child "registered" which would generally mean christened/batptised. Scotlandspeople only has records from the establised church of Scotland in it's collection at the moment so if your family where of any other church they might not appear. Records have also been lost, damaged or just not kept. Some families just did not have their children baptised so there is no records.
Going by the estimated date or birth and the date of marriage, have you considered that Hilton is the illegitimate daughter of Janet?
Also you say you don't have Janes birth? But provide her birth date?
