Here's what I think we have:
Wallis/Gilliver family:
James Wallis b 1885, Warks m Catherine Howe b 1896 (or was she Catherine H (Hilda) Redfern?) 1928, Australia.
Lindsey, I didn't understand this - do we think Catherine was previously married too? Can I get access to Oz BMDs? Never tried, but have Ancestry WW sub.
James previously married to Ruth Larum in 1915, who died 1925.
His parents William Wallis 1860, and Lucy Jilliver 1859 (not Florence Hannah as on marriage cert - she was his sister).
1891 Census, William Wallis 31 (seems wrong), Florence H 12, James 5 1881 Census, William Wallis 28, Lucy 29 Lucy Wallis d 1890 Tamworth, age 40. William Wallis m Lucy Gilliver 1873, Warwick.
James went to Oz in 1911, age 24.
In 1861, William Gilliver 31, Charlotte 32, Lucy 10 and others.
Howe/Donnelly family:
Catherine's parents John Howe and Ellen Donnelly (not Mckenely as on marriage cert).
In 1911, Catherine is an orphan in a home in Durham. In 1901 she is with mother Ellen b 1873, called Kate, age 8, adn grandmother Kate Donnolly age 56. In 1891 Ellen Donolly age 22 (wrong name, should be Howe) is with husband John Howe age 24, and her mother Catherine Donolly age 64 (guess it should be 46).
Ellen Howe d 1907 Durham, age 32. Catherine Donnelly d 1904, age 54.
Not all of this ties up, re ages. But best I can see to date.

Sorry to hear you've been unwell. You are positively not allowed to move house whilst doing family history research - it is against the rules.
My husband has chuckled at my new name, Susan, says it is appropriate. He is not getting any dinner tonight.
I can see the info we've found is a bit disjointed. I'll see if I can summarise it - helps to refresh the memory too.
Margaret, alias Madmeg.

Susan
you print out information from threads on GR by highlighting what you want to print. Then you click on File on your computer, click on Print, click on Selection, and click Print
You cannot view original image from these pages ...... you have to go back to the source where the information was found. For example the information that Lindsey found on the 1861 England Census about William Gilliver was copied from ancestry.co.uk
You have to go back to ancestry to be able to click on the original image for that record.
Lindsey and Madmeg have worked really hard to find this information for you, and I still don't see that you have acknowledged whether you think it has to do with your family, or whether you understand it.

Sue, we could really do with your opinions on what's been found for the Howe family, which was quite difficult to research, and confirmation that you understand it.
Also, Lindsey has found almost all the records needed for the Wallis family - shout if you don't understand.
Deaths Dec 1890 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wallis Lucy 40 Tamworth 6b 264
So his wife was not Florence Hannah, that girl was his daughter.

There are these possible deaths for Ellen and Catherine:
England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index: 1837-1915 about Ellen Howe Name: Ellen Howe Estimated birth year: abt 1875 Year of Registration: 1907 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Age at Death: 32 District: Sedgefield (1896-1938) County: Durham Volume: 10a Page: 78 (click to see others on page)
England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index: 1837-1915 about Catherine Donnelly Name: Catherine Donnelly Estimated birth year: abt 1850 Year of Registration: 1904 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun Age at Death: 54 District: South Shields County: Durham, Tyne and Wear Volume: 10a Page: 437 (click to see others on page) Nothing really close for father John, if in fact he had died.

It's probaably one of those homes for girls at risk ? They were trained for service.
My plot does seem a bit wobbly but that's all I can come up with. I reckon the older sister Florence brought the children up as Mum Lucy died young.
and
when Granny Catherine died the Howes were put into care?
[ I might have been watching too many episodes of "when the boat comes in " !! ]
Australia would have seemed a glamorous prospect

Can't find anything better than Lindsey has. My guess is grandma Catherine (from Ireland) was 46 in 1891, the enumerator switched the numbers or it happened when the sheets were compiled. And Arthur W is her grandson, not nephew. And Ellen is Ellen How, not Donnelly. Other ages are a bit dodgy, but still...
1911 has a Mary Howe age 11 and a Maggie Howe 8 in Durham Union Girls Home, described as a training home, only 22 girls, so doesn't sound like a workhouse though they're all described as inmates.

I was trying to get my head around Lindsey's postings:
Marriages Sep 1890 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Donelly Ellen S. Shields 10a 1006
Spouse Jonathan Howe
So by the time Catherine married, she'd got her mum's maiden name a bit confused.
