Sylvia
many thanks plenty to go on there.
The names Heatley, Heys and Craven are always on these records.
I never knew RC records were not on family search that is maybe why I can't find any records pre-1837 for my Heatley's.
I have found one marriage of a Heatley who married a Heys.
I do think that John Heatley 1813 father did marry a Heys but was it Mary Heys?

you say you go to Preston regularly. Have you managed to find the appropriate baptisms & marriages.
A lot of the RC records give extra information in the register, often as notes in the margin

HI Ann
I have not been to Preston this year but I have been 5 times before. I was not always looking for Heatley's.
I have looked for records for John 1813 and possible parents.
I did not find anything that I have not found on line. I did not find any more possible marriage for his parents. I did not find a birth record for John 1813.
I will trry and find time to go back soon

Is this my John Heatley Surgeon? How would I ever prove it. Does anyone know if records of army surgeons in the 1850's exist?
The Standard (London, England), Friday, September 07, 1855 THE ARMY MEDICAL OFFICES FOR FOREIGN SERVICE - Orders were received yesterday at the garrison at Chatham for the undernamed medical officers, for embarkation for services at the hospital at Scutari, Crimea, and the colonies: - Acting Assistant Surgeon T L W Wright, left the General Hospital this morning for Portsmouth, to relieve from duty Assistant Surgeon Edward Dolen, who embarks at that port in medical charge of troops for the Crimea. Assistant Surgeon J Coates MD, 26th Regiment, is also to embark for the East and to exchange into another on his arrival there and Assistant Surgeon George C Clery, with the following 7 Acting assistant surgeons, from the General Hospital Fort Pitt, embark for Seutari and the Crimea, viz:- William V Brown, T PMitchell, D Knox, S Herbert, W L Veale, Charles Cooper and G G Leake. Acting Assistant Surgeon J J Kelly and Acting Assistant Surgeon C G Le Febure proceed to Barbadoes: ACTING ASSISTANT SURGEON JOHN HEATLEY and Acting Assistant Surgeon Bell embark for JAMAICA.....etc There are up to the present date 276 invalid patients in the General Hospital at Fort Pitt and 339 in the supplemental hospital at Brompton Barracks; and there are about 400 patients in the hospitals at Chichester & Portsmouth. A very large number of invalids from te invalid depot St Mary's Barracks, being convalescents, left this morning in vans for conveyance to Gravesend thence to be forwarded to their friends and homes. Serjeant Brodie 1st Royal Dragoons, whorecently prevented a duel at Canterbury has arrived at the invalid depot to be discharged from the service. He objects to this mode of getting rid of him as he is still able and willing to serve her Majesty and his country.

I live in Manchester but if I ever go to London I will go to Kew for a number of ancestors including John Heatley.
If his marriage record lists his parents that would be brilliant.
Thanks for your input.

Are we making assumptions do you think or are we on the right track. With what seem to be common names for the area is there more than one family?
We have Brindle, Lytham and now Preston???
Marriage: 27 Dec 1785 St John, Preston, Lancashire, England James Taylor - of Leigh in this County Catharine Heatley - of this parish Witness: Law. Rawstorne; Ann Heatley Married by Licence by: H. Shuttleworth - Vicar Register: Marriages 1778 - 1785, Page 180, Entry 535 Source: LDS Film 94013

LOL
Taylors and Heatleys
So this could be the marriage of Catherine Eastwood parents
Catherine Heatley could be the sister of William Heatley
I found this
* The Heatleys, always staunch recusants, had resided at Samlesbury. Brindle, and the neighbourhood for many generations. James at one time resided in Preston, and gave his name to Heatley Street. His son, Captain William Heatley, of Brindle Lodge, who died July 21, 1840, aged 76, was the squire so identified with the chapel at Brindle. During his life he was a generous benefactor to chapels at Manchester, Preston and elsewhere, and bequeathed large sums to the Church.
If Catherine Heatley father is James Heatley then I think it is quite likely that William is Catherine sister.
I have hunch that John Heatley 1813 grandfather was a James Heatley ,who knows they might be the same James.
Is this brother of Catherine Heatley?
Marriage: 17 Aug 1784 St John, Preston, Lancashire, England James Heatley - of Salmsbury in the parish of Blackburn Betty Makinson - of Grimsargh in this parish Witness: James Fowler; Wm. Hodgkinson Married by Licence by: H. Shuttleworth - Vicar Register: Marriages 1778 - 1785, Page 136, Entry 403 Source: LDS Film 94013

Could this James be John 1813 grandfather?
If James, Catherine and William Heatley were siblings who were their parents?
Captain William Heatley was born in 1764
So he would have been 20 when these two were married. He never married.
