Mavis has had a look in the newspaper archives for any mention of the bigamy and James Arthur Jackson but couldn't find anything. He was sentenced in Leeds Assizes to 6 months. This might be why she decided to call herself Burgess; if they didn't divorce and she married Abson, would she also be guilty of bigamy? |

How about tryijng to find some newspapers for that area at that time? Maybe there was some scandal or somethings which made changing names a good idea? Maybe check the criminal registers too. Some of mine had three different names they used- depending who was 'wanted'! |

Mavis the wedding certificate wasn't that helpful.. the witnesses were H Jepson & A Abson.. They were married in the Parish Church in Goole and Freda's age is 27 |

Out of area, but I wondered if this might be Freda in 1911. |

That looks interesting Mavis.. I'm just getting very confused and a little pessimistic that I might not be able to solve anything. I contacted a society in Yorkshire to find out about the Goole Poor Institution but apparently there are no records remaining. |

I admit that a Freda Jackson living with a Burgess family looks like a possibility, but I can't tie them together anywhere else. They're both quite common names, so maybe not such a coincidence. |

Can anyone help me find the birth record for the Freda Jackson living at the Bedford Hotel in Cowes, Isle of Wight in the 1911 census? |

Mavis, I think she was born Jackson and married a Burgess because on her marriage certificate it says widow |

Did you see the Freda living in Isle of Wight with Burgess family in 1911? Born in Hampshire. The Freda in my tree visited Hampshire when she gave birth to her second child. |
