lancashireAnn Report 1 Apr 2010 12:45

Does this ring any bells

Rose Ann Jones married Samuel Hill 8 May 1936 in Oldham
one of witnesses Arthur JOnes + Mary (Maria) Cheetham & Pa(?) Wright or
Night

EDIT - year should be 1933 Mary is Mary Eliz Cheetham & PAK Wright was the priest. When someone has done a translation from the original it is easier to make out what it actually says. & as I found PAK Wright on many entries it seems reasonable to assume he officiated.

Hi Flick

I have been working on this one for a while now but did not realise there were others. I have not done much board trawling recently.

It might be useful if you could give me the other thread numbers in case there is anything there which would help make more sense of this lot please.

martynsue Report 30 Mar 2010 23:11

annie lockhart was my grandmother they married at register office and the family would not have anything to do with them for quite a time he was catholic and she was protestant my mum says she can remember the priest knocking on the door and saying they were living in sin & there marriage was not legal in the eyes of the lord

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 30 Mar 2010 22:31

thanks martyn - still a little confused but am going back oevr therest of the thread to see if I have missed anything

did you know there were TWO Norman Jones who married in Oldham in 1935 and both married an Annie

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1935
JONES Norman P LOCKHART Annie Oldham Register Office or Registrar Attended
JONES Norman MEADOWCROFT Annie Oldham, St. James Oldham

the Annie Lockhart one is possibly RC (registrar attended)
the Annie Meadowcroft one is Cof E

so there were at least 2 Norman Jones knocking around Oldham

lancashireAnn Report 30 Mar 2010 20:31

actually Martyn I think I have lost the plot here. I need to reread it all to sort my head out. Can't even remember how the Leicester family fit in with the original Jones query.
