My thoughts exactly - I've looked! Feel that may be a vital missing link. Does anyone know if parts of Oldham may be missing from the 1901 census?

where is john on the 1901 census ?
he is with mum&brother on1891&1881 were did he go?
mary is down as a widow on her own with ellen in 1901?
was he married to elizabeth if so why can she not be found on 1901 census!

martynsue

martynsue Report 14 Apr 2010 18:20

gene when your grandad gave you bits of info did he ever say if john edward had been married before he met mary

martynsue

martynsue Report 14 Apr 2010 18:01

i must say it is nice to find a relative that i did not know of, mum will be full of it tomorrow
i do not think john&mary married or someone would have found something by now!

I have found info in my notes of a burial for Thomas Jones buried 20 September 1913 aged 18 months in same grave as John Edward.

gene1 Report 14 Apr 2010 15:36

Hi all, I have been trying to locate a marriage index for john and mary for a long time but have not been successful. As Mary used many variations of surnames and names it is possible that this may be why.

After finding various birth indexes for the name John Edward Jones I enquired at Reg offices: Wrexham, Ffestiniog, Dolgellau, Bangor, Caernarfon, Oswestry and Cheshire but so far nothing!

I have replied to your pm Martyn.

martynsue Report 14 Apr 2010 08:07

thanks julie
john was a iron moulder, sounds like them

Jooleh

Jooleh Report 13 Apr 2010 23:47

Finally found the 1891 census that gene1 posted earlier. Ancestry had them down as 'Tones' -I've corrected it Martyn as if I remember correctly you don't have a sub for Ancestry? FMP has them under the correct name but I don't have a sub for that.

Anyway - point is John E is down as ______ moulder - can't read the first word, so he may well be your man. So his mother says he was born Crewe & he thinks he was born Wales (if he's the same John E as the 1911 one).

Julie

EDIT In 1881 the John Booth who is with Ann & John E Jones is an Iron Moulder.
The image says Ann was born ______ Wales - I think it's North Wales.

there may have been a joseph in the baptism records but have not written one down. There were one or two baptisms which might have fitted but the names did not seem right so ignored them.

Can't find a Joseph on lancsbmd with a familiar looking mmn

pray hard for those certificates cos if you receive yours I should get mine - actually ordered before yours on 31 March

I really must stop reading this thread just before I go to bed - it goes round & round in my head so much I can't sleep!

would be interesting to look at the baptism for that Norman we found (somewhere) born 1905 (& poss death 1907). Wonder what his birthday was

martynsue

martynsue Report 13 Apr 2010 09:20

also cannot find john/mary marriage

jansmith

jansmith Report 13 Apr 2010 04:52

If Norman turns out to be Thomas then death index will still be wrong then as it gives birth as Aug.(i know this date is only good if person registering death is 100% sure!)

Jooleh

Jooleh Report 13 Apr 2010 00:07

I've searched long and hard for Leonard! I was starting to wonder if he was the Thomas who now appears to be Norman Patrick. The different mmn use I can understand but registering a child in one name then completely changing the name at baptism seems really odd.................the mystery continues...........

Julie

lancashireAnn Report 12 Apr 2010 23:53

It's nice to know that all that from gene1 now makes sense of the baptism records I found and ties the leicester name in nicely

just that elusive marriage and Norman's birth - is he Thomas with a completely different birth date or.......................

edit - when was Leonard born (just to tidy things up) I can't seem to find the right one
