Meg-did you get Herbert's occupation on the marriage cert?

Maureen

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 8 Mar 2010 19:12

Agreed, Maureen.

5 Gertrude Watkinsons in 1911 of right age, checked them all.
110 Gertrudes in Yorkshire in 1911 of right age, none with a surname that looks as if it had been mistranscribed.

HELLO GARRY DAVID (I'll put a rocket under him!).

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 8 Mar 2010 19:13

No Maureen, I didn't ask that. But even if he is a Tightrope Walker, I still can't find him.

Madmeg Report 8 Mar 2010 19:21

Looked at emigration records, zilch.

Gertrude anybody living with Herbert anybody, zilch.

G W and H W, zilch.

Mary b, does that tree have anyone in 1911?

EDIT, I've had a look on Ancestry. Several trees of Watkinsons, some appear very poorly researched. The one that Mary has homed in on is the best, but no 1911 census - and no Gertrudes or Herberts.

Mary

Mary Report 8 Mar 2010 19:29

No it doesn't.

I have found John Watkinson born 1835 in knaresborough the father of John William

1911 John retired engine driver born 1835 living at 26,Belle Vue St
York with daughter martha Marston nee Watkinson born 1862,but thats it.

I have tried going through 1901 with just Gertrude first name only with parents John and Elizabeth.

If none are coming up then its likely to be those flipping transcribers again.

Well, I think we've done all we can. I've a major rellie in my own tree who disappears for two decades, I've spent a small fortune trawling workhouses, hospitals, the army etc. and never found him. He was a chimney sweep, so I've come to the conclusion that he was up a chimney on census night!

I am as confident as I can be that Herbert is the son of the John Wiliam bricklayer and Elizabeth Beaumont we have found. Borne out by all the research here and some of the trees on Ancestry. And John William is likely the son of John b Knaresborough and Mary b Pontefract, though the Ancestry trees have two possible Marys.

But I'd still advise that Garry David gets the birth cert of Herbert 1892. If we'd found him living with John William and Elizabeth he could perhaps manage without it - but we haven't. If it were me I'd want a bit more proof that he didn't just fabricate his father as John William on marriage (as possibly did Gertrude as well).

Is that sensible advice folks?

Right Garry now can you tell us where they were in 1901 and 1911 as it is driving us all up the wall.

Hi Garry David,

You will see I've already stuck my nose in, and people have been really busy. We've got Herbert's parents in several years, but not Herbert or his sister Gertrude. I think we've given up on finding them.

But Herbert was also a bricklayer? Wonder if that will give anyone any new ideas.

I now think you have to get Herbert's birth cert to prove that what he said on his marriage cert is true.

By the way, we're all coming round to your place for dinner on Saturday night.

I certainly do wish you luck ,I've tried everything, was even wondering if elizabeth their mum had divorced and remarried.

Its strang none of them can be found.

Maryb.

And I'm like a dog with a bone,I find it hard to give in.

P.S I could do with a good meal,I've been having a crown sorted in my mouth and going back for it fitting in the morning. For the past two weeks I've been trying to eat soft stuff so i didn't disturb the tempory filling which covers three teeth and it isn't funny.
I won't be getting another.

Madmeg Report 8 Mar 2010 20:27

Garry David, you might notice that all your supporters on this thread are female, so get down to Asda yourself!

I'll provide the wine - my daughter works for a firm of wine importers.

Are we having red herrings and brussels sprouts?

Sorry to hear about your teeth Mary b, we all hate the dentist.

Anyhow, get that birth cert and let us know what it says.

I'm a tough cookie at times, but I've been heartened by everyone's support of Garry David after he initially made a £%$$& up of it.

Good team effort by all.
