Could not find your James on 1871 - can you give the reference please or tell me if his name was spelt differently on the census? |

Hi Susan, Thanks for that, I shall check that out too, the spelling could then have changed as he grew up as i have followed everything back to him, he also states his birth place as london on later census forms. I am not very good at reading the original transcrpits to see if there are errors! All help very much appreciated. |

Thanks, I will try that now- from the help I got yesterday I have found that the family links back to this boy who must have come from Ireland somewhere between 1863-71 but he appears to be the only 'scholar' Foran on th elist so no siblings/clues as to the rest of his family! |

Lorna...It was possibly West Derby Union Workhouse...you should have a "Sub Set" listed on the upper right hand side of the Census Page just keep clicking back on that it should take you to "First Entry" ....as an alternative ..Put in search for Christopher Trotter b.Durham...He was the Master there in 1871.... |
