Madmeg Report 31 Jan 2011 00:19

I have come across this family before. Is it another thread of yours, William. It is this Campion name I recognise.

Have you tried looking in Search Record on here? Or similar on Ancestry. I just recognise the names.

Hi Margaret,You keep some late hours.
Interesting family!!!!!! Very annoying !!!! Like Maureen said "it's driving me to drink"
I am working on this family as my first husband was George Bradshaw son of the second Joseph Cecil b.1892 and I have three Bradshaw children.
I sent and received two wrong certs.so I know it's not the obvious Joseph born 1/7/1856 in (sub.Dist) Didsbury 8c 433.Love Dorothy

HI ALL, who have been done any research on Joseph Cecil Bradshaw b.(c).1856 for me..I have gone around and around, over and over any and all information.Trawled through numerous forums and whatever I could find.I just can't think of any more places to try.I have previously posted under HELP and BRADSHAW. Everybody gets as far Back as Joseph Cecil and Emily Slinger in the 1881 census.I have a birth cert for their son Joseph Cecil b.27/1/1892 in Withington and a marriage cert for him.(J.C.2).Salford.
It seems to point to a connection to the Champion/Bagnall Bradshaws as they were all Artists/photopainters and lived in the same area.I have joined findmypast but no positive results.I found a William Bradshaw portrait painter but that seems like no connection. It appears that Eliza Bagnall Bradshaw (and probably her husband) were from Ireland.I tried to find a clue there. Also found a Bert Champion Bradshaw b.1863.
What do you think?????? Dorothy

This one is driving me to drink...(OK-it's 5 am here and grapefruit juice).
I'm wondering how to prove that Joseph (pick your own middle name) was the son of George Bagnall Bradshaw.
Maybe a will??

Dear William-Dorothy :-)

There is no way you have offended anyone, I'm sorry if I gave you that impression. It's just that if you already know stuff, and people go looking to find what you already have, it's a bit irritating. And we'd rather spend our time trying to help you find what you DON'T already have.

And it is perfectly sensible of you to try other sources to help, such as the Salford site. I just thought I might have found you a good connection - and it was you all the time!

So I am not mad at you (oops, perhaps I should amend my name to Pottymeg, which is what I meant). Far from it after your apology that really wasn't needed. You haven't upset anybody, I am sure.

I haven't absorbed what everyone else has found on the family since my last post, will do that after I've eaten (nearly 8.30 p.m. in England). And I've just thought, my next door neighbours are both artists/photographers from the Manchester area, so I'll be paying them a visit tomorrow.

Best wishes

(Not at all) Madmeg

Hi Mary, Here I am awake at our time 1.30am as I can't sleep thinking of the people that I have unwittingly upset.
I really do appreciate any and all help that is given me.

Yes is does seem as if Joseph and Charles may be brothers.
I am asking for help as being a pensioner(nearly 70) I cannot join a lot of sites.
Thank you Mary b Dorothy

Mary Report 27 Feb 2010 13:35

I think Joseph C 1861 is son of George bagnall Bradshaw born @ 1819 in Hanley Staff and Mary Dorothea (Champion) born @ 1829 either in Ireland or Salford her mum had the same name was with them in 1861

George was in the photograhy business as was his son george 1851 London and Champion 1856 manchester.
He also went under the name Charles Champion Bradshaw he married Emily Jane Parker late 1881 in Chorlton.

1891 Joseph C and Emily J lived in Withington district 15 image 29.

1891 Charles (Champion) lived also in Withington district 7 Image 10.

If you google Bradshaw artists and photographers, ninth result on first page is about Charles C Bradshaw born 1856 who looks like the brother of your Joseph.

Dorothy,
I don't blame you at all for giving this one another go. Your wall seems to be made of "foam rubber" rather than brick.
The Bradshaws ( the Champion group) weren't registered with those wonderful middle names were they? And the Slingers really seem to be "yours".

http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/tourism/pgrphrs/pgrhrs.htm

Bradshaw John Champion, 1847-
One of main supporters in the early days of the Arts & Crafts movement on the Island (along with J.M.Nicholson & R. Wane) - a copy of his painting of Douglas Market, which includes a self portrait, is in Journal Manx Museum iv #58 p104 March 1939)
1881c: a John C. Bradshaw, Artist (Portrait & Landscape), is shown as a lodger at Margaret Gelling's boarding house at 13 Mount Havelock
1881: Mount Havelock
1883: Mount Havelock
1887: 40 Finch road
1889: 40 Finch road
1893 40 Finch road, Photographic studio now conducted by Mr. L.B. Bradshaw (Brown's Guide, 1893)
1894: 40 Finch road

Very interesting. Not the one who is the father of "our" Joseph Cecil, but probably related to the family in Cheetham, and perhaps related to Joseph Cecil.

We need to find this marriage of Emily Slinger. Married for 20 years in 1911, and according to the above post married in Didsbury.
