Grays' of Northumberland or Scotland

Can anyone help me progress my ancestors George Gray bn 1765 North Shields, Tyne & Wear (Northumberland) a Shipwright.
On 30/03/1800 at All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne he married Isabella Benson bn 19/10/1776 baptsd 26/12/1776.
She was daughter of William Benson bn 1750??

They apparently had many children Robert 1801, Amelia 1804, George 1806, Nicholas 1808, William 1810, Elizabeth 1813, Isabella 1815, John 1818 - 1885 my direct ancestor.

Although I have this information, it is limited in actual corroboration.
I am at a crucial point but cannot find anything further about George Gray 1765 (was he born in Scotland)? - or his father in law William Benson.
