My g-g-grandfather John Cresswell was born abt 1790, baptised in St. Martins Birmingham 5 Apr 1790 when his parents were given as Thomas Cresswell and Ann. I have explored several Thomas/Ann combinations in the area, all of which were incorrect. The only clue I have is that he moved - at some time - to Clerkenwell in London where he worked as a Brass Founder, and died in Clerkenwell Workhouse 5 Apr 1867. Clerkenwell rate books 1828-9 show him living at 62 Coppice Row, and a William Cresswell at no 61 in 1831-2; his wife - Mary Shepherd Northfield - also lived there, as did her Uncle John Northfield, who mentions both John and Mary in his Will. Subsequent generations have been documented and proved, but the brick wall of John's parents remains, and any help or guidance would be much appreciated. Charles Cresswell. |
