Hi Pam
From http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx
Condron, Leslie John William; Army Number - 294709; Date of birth - 19 March 1912
He was a carpenter, single, aged 21, born Wangaratta. Next of kin was James Condron of 56 Rowan St, Wangaratta. He enlisted in 1933 and was discharged in 1934.
Assume this James is his father and the same James Condron who gives the above address on his enlistment in 1931 aged 42; he was born 1899 Wangaratta, labourer.
The Argus, Thursday 2 July 1936 THIRTEEN CHARGES OF LARCENY When he pleaded guilty to 13 charges of larceny from dwellings at Kew on various dates between April and June 1936, Leslie John William Condron, formerly of Wangaratta, unemployed, was sentenced by Mr O'Callaghan P.M. at Kew Court yesterday to imprisonment for 14 days on each charge, the sentences to be cumulate. Evidence was given by a series of witnesses that on dates between April and June, blankets, bedding and other articles had been stolen from beds on the front verandahs of their homes. The total value of property was £32. Constable J. J. Hoare said that on June 23 he had been Condron sitting on a seat in Cotham road with a sugar bag containing blankets beside him. He had said that his aunt had given them to him but later he had admitted that he had stolen them. He had also admitted the other thefts and that he had pawned the goods. Constable Hoare said that some of the articles had since been recovered from pawnbrokers shops. Condron told the Bench that he was unemployed and had yelded to the temptation to steal the blankets. The prosecutor (Sergeant Vincent) said that he had been a schoolmate of Condron's father at Wangaratta. Condron had always had a good character until he had become involved in the present cases. There were a number of similar charges to be heard In other courts.
bdm to follow...

Hi Cherilyn,
A great big thank you for your reply to my query on Esau Risby. Esau Risby fathers name was Issac Risby so I feel that the Isaac Risby who died 1855 is my Esau Risby. The Joseph and Mary Risby is not connected. Joseph fathers name is not the same.
You mentioned that Esau Risby is buried in West Maitland Cemetery. May I ask the source relating to Maitland Cemetery.
Thank you once again for your extensive research on my Esau Risby.
Cheers Kay and Allan P

Ah there was an Isaac RISBY who died in 1855 aged 45; he is buried in West Maitland Cemetery. Certainly fits the year of birth better.
Esau could have been taken as Isaac...just a thought!

I am wondering if Esau changed his name to Joseph?
There is a marriage for Joseph RISBY to Mary ROBSON in 1838 in the Maitland area (where you mention he was assigned). It appears their 8 children were also born there (1841-59). Joseph was an innkeeper in West Maitland (Rose, Shamrock & Thistle). Wife Mary took it on after his death - it was then called Falls Hotel - not sure if the same one.
These are the only RISBY births in this period in NSW. Seems a big coincidence.
Joseph RISBY died in Maitland in 1863, son of Thos & Ann (reg 4251). Hmm, age does not quite fit.
The Maitland Mercury & Hunter River General Advertiser, Thursday 5 November 1863 On the 1st instant, at his residence, Oakhampton-road, West Maitland, Mr. Joseph Risby, aged 62 years, leaving an affectionate wife and family, and a large circle of friends to lament their loss.
