Hi Sylvia

It is a bad scan (Trove) but this is the result of his court case:

The Argus, Saturday 20 September 1930
Laurence Henry Harding, aged 23 years, labourer of Myrtleford, had pleaded guilty to a charge of having obtained money at Melbourne on August 3 by means of a valueless cheque. Judge Winneke said that Harding would be sentenced to imprisonment for three months.

Sorry I can't find any remarriage or death for him, nor Monica :-(

Hi Cherilyn,
could you possibly find out some info. as to what happened to Laurence Harry Harding b. London 1906. He married 1937 North Sydney to Monica Elaine Webb but papers for divorce 1941 and 1945 NSW State Records.
Laurence joined Australian Army 3rd June 1940 - discharged 2nd June 1941 - 2/29 Battalion.
Enlisted Paddington NSW. I know he had a Court case of Fraud against him 1930 but do not know result of Court case. On Trove.
I would like to know if possible if Laurence remarried and any children and what became of him after Divorce. Any snippet of info. welcome. Many thanks, Sylvia

Happy to help, Linda :-D

Found Frederick John STEWARD - he did serve in WWII; he enlisted in 1942, served til Nov 1945, and he was a Staff Sergeant. Spelling is a bit different so missed it before, but spotted him on the nominal roll:

STEWARD FREDRICK JOHN : Service Number - VX101939 : Date of birth - 16 Mar 1918 : Place of birth - MELBOURNE VIC : Place of enlistment - BROADMEADOWS VIC : Next of Kin - STEWARD BLANCHE

Hi Zena

If you order thru NSW registry it will be A$31 for a certificate:
www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search

If you use a transcription agent it is less - A$18 (less if you don't need the full cert). See Joy Murrin www.joymurrin.com.au/home-page/our-services/nsw/
OR Marilyn Rowan www.transcriptions.com.au/pages/transerv.php

The only difference is that it is not a 'legal' document in the courts but all the info is exactly the same! Hope this helps :-)

Cherilyn, I could kiss you!!! Thought I hd to tell another dear friend that her saintly grandmother wasn't so saintly!!! Hmm the one in 1942 is at home with Blanche, maybe the WW1 is a forefather, and maybe FJ didn't "serve" but joined up just too late? Thank you again, Linda :)

Yep Linda. Blanche married Frederick in 1939 in Victoria (reg 12715). Those young romantics! :-D

The only Frederick John STEWARD at NAA Recordsearch served in WWI? So maybe the one in 1942 is not him?

Hi Cherilyn, me again!! I'm looking for a possible marriage between a Blanche Hutcheson B 1918 (place unknown as yet!) to one Frederick John Steward. FJ was born 1918 in Vic, and I have both parents from Vic death records, but I cannot find a marriage in either Vic or NSW. In the 1942 census, FJ is recorded as a soldier, and I'm wondering if perhaps they married in a hurry before he embarked for Papua. Their first child was born c 1940. Cheers Linda

Hi Cane

Do you know his parents names please? Does he appear on the 1901 UK census, or 1911? just for a timeframe...bit of a needle in a haystack! :-)

Happy New Year, and I hope it will be the year that I find my ancestor Alexander Spence. He is proving very difficult to date but I will keep trying :-D
I wonder if he was in the army in Australia as he had been in Ireland, but then I thought that was too old ;-)
If he had a sheep station, did that come later :-S
Did he travel to South Africa first to work the gold mines and then travel to Australia :-S
Alexander was in India with the army in the late 1880s early 1890s when living in Ireland, maybe that holds a clue :-D
Kind regard <3 <3 <3

My pleasure Briony. Sorry I can't find any marriage between the two families, it a bit of a mystery that one! But seems too much of a coincidence not to be connected.

I noticed that too, and its interesting you ask if there's a connection to the Harbins. My reason for asking if Henry Shaw Harbin was born in Lambeth, England is because I've got a Henry Augustus Smith born 1837 in Lambeth and his father, another Henry Augustus Smith born in Lambeth in 1810. Henry and his parents and siblings appear in the 1851 census but Henry junior disappears after that, just in time to come to SA maybe!!!! My Henry and Mary's daughter married a Harbin in SA.
