I may be having a Eureka moment or I may just be seeing things I have looked at this for so long
Rhondda you have father of William who married Ann Hills as William.
Check 2 marriages below. It looks like he could be John. That would make the connection with my tree.
"William WINDERS was born in 1813 in Sutton, Lancashire, England. Ann HILL(S) was born in 1811. She died in 1848/9 at the age of 38 in Prescot, Lancashire, England.1 William WINDERS and Ann HILL(S) were married in Sep 1840 in Prescot, Lancashire, England.2 They appeared in the census in 1841 in Prescot, Lancashire, England.3 William WINDERS and Ann HILL(S) had the following children: 1.1. John HILL (WINDERS) was born in Sep 1838 in St. Helens, Lancashire, England.4 He appeared in the census in 1841. He appeared in the census in 1851 in St. Helens, Lancashire, England.5 John died in Dec 1899 at the age of 61 in Prescot, Lancashire, England."

yes sherlock we have the marriage cert for William and Ellen Taylor. It records her fathers name as Smith. I have gone through looking fot Thomas and Ellen and Mary together unsucessfully.
I think Preston is unlikely. So far all events are recorded as Parr Sutton Ecclestone St Helen's Possibly Windle and later into Farnworth and Widnes.
Prescot reg dist
Try looking at a map to get a feel for the area. Most of the industries were mining and chemicals. Offshoots from that would be glass(Pilkingtons) and brickmaking.

This one.....
"If William & Elizabeth Dewhurst married Preston 1836 and stayed in the Preston area there are 8 children (no William) born to a Winder with mmn = Dewhurst in Broughton, Preston"
We do not need a William. We need a John to be born to William Winders and Elizabeth Dewhurst. Is that a possibility???

Hi I'm back.
Refresh my memory that you have the marriage certificate for Ellen Taylor and William Winders. I can not see that written on the thread.
Will the certificate show the name of Ellen Taylor's father. That info will solve one of the major questions. By the look of the new info from lancashireAnn, I think the certificate is important.
Are we agreed that Ellen Taylor's father was Thomas Taylor.

I will pay lots of attention to the new info this evening.
