So it probably is her marriage in 1900 then? |

OMG - this is one of those embarrassing ones - yes, Belle you are quite right. Emma WAS indeed a Carter - as you said, the illegitimate daughter of Frances - although she was always known as "Oddy" on census returns so that is what she is listed as on my tree and I had TOTALLY forgotten (it's a long time since I last researched her ...). Congratulations on your detective skills!! |

Perhaps Emma was born Emma Carter and she was the illegitimate daughter of Frances? |

Yes, that's the George I've got too, Tracey. |
|||
|
WayneTracey | Report | 3 Jan 2010 18:06 |
So George was single in 1891 ? |
|||
|
Aveyronnaise | Report | 3 Jan 2010 17:52 |
Sorry guys - took a short break to eat and wash up! Now, George was indeed George W Taylor (b Bradford Moor 1859) and that marriage that you found earlier looks interesting ,Tracey. So if that IS our Emma she married a Mr Carter sometime between 1891 (when she was single on the elusive census) and, say, 1899. |

Unless i'm mistaken we still do not have a marriage yet? |

To be honest just recently i've taken to using FMP for census searching, it's cleaner and faster..... |

Ginny!! Thank you for reassuring me that I am NOT completely mad!! |

Tracey - you're not the only one - I have used your reference for where Emma and Beatrice appear, and I have also tried searching the Oates family, but STILL nothing is coming up on Ancestry. It only shows 26 pages of District 12 ... am I going mad or do I need to demand a refund on my membership?? |
