No, I have not searched for any information yet.
I have just started looking for the daughters of Abraham & Mary marriages, as the names are quite common, I am going through census' to see if I can 'marry' some of them up!!
Elizabeth 1799, Mary 1801, Hannah 1803, Sarah 1805 and Ann 1810
I did not have the 1841 or 1851 Census on Mary.

If anybody can get through at the IGI where I can't:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/igi/search_igi.asp
Results for: Sarah Parkinson, Birth/Christening, 1790 - 1810, Yorkshire, England, British Isles Father: Abraham 1. SARAH PARKINSON - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 06 MAY 1805 Saint Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire, England
it will probably show the mother's given name.
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html
-- no result for that baptism.
Results for: Abraham Parkinson, Marriage, 1790 - 1810, Yorkshire, England, British Isles Spouse: Mary Greenwood 1. Abraham Parkinson - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Marriage: 02 JUL 1797 Thornhill, , Yorkshire, England
Is this Mary Greenwood Parkinson in 1851?
Name: Mary Parkinson Age: 79 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1772 Relation: Mother Gender: F (Female) > Where born: Thornhill, Yorkshire, England Civil parish: Old Malton St Mary Town: Old Malton County/Island: Yorkshire
Anne Copperthwaite 41 - surgeon's wife Harold Copperthwaite 12 Mary Parkinson 79 - annuitant Kate Parkinson 13 Elizabeth Wardell 26 Hannah Cossins 18
In 1841, Ancestry has hived her off, but she's living in Old Malton with William and Anne Copperthwaite.
Just wondering whether you've accounted for the daughters of the couple as mentioned in the marriage announcement -- did they in fact have a daughter Sarah?

Remember ... FreeBMD only starts when registration did, 1837. An 1824 marriage would not appear in the GRO index, because it didn't exist.
You want the parish record -- I don't know Yorkshire so I don't know where they'd be found now. Hopefully somebody will come along who does, when they wake up. ;)

So the date *was* 1824??
Looks like the marriage to Keturah Martin was a second marriage for Mr Holroyd then.

Janey,
Sorry, I think all the sites are forever doing maintenance!!
The marriage was in 1824, I was wondering if Sarah who was baptized about 1805, was the daughter of Abraham Parkinson & Mary Greenwood.
The Newspaper Article states that Sarah was the daughter of Abraham Parkinson, Wine Merchant of Crimbles House (Bolton Chronicle Sat Oct 9 1824)
Thanks

And then there's google -- for "abraham parkinson holroyd" to start:
http://www.kdvkfamilytree.50megs.com/4300.htm
PARKINSON, Sarah Keturah 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 * Born: Abt 1805, Hellingly, Sussex County, England * Marriage: HOLROYD, Abraham Parkinson on 4 Oct 1824 in St. Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire County, England 1 * Died: 1879, Knaresborough, Yorkshire County, England about age 74 10
Other names for Sarah were Kateorah, Keziah and Sarah.
Sarah married Abraham Parkinson HOLROYD, son of Joseph HOLROYD and Hannah PARKINSON, on 4 Oct 1824 in St. Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire County, England.1 (Abraham Parkinson HOLROYD was born in 1795 in Leeds, Yorkshire County, England, christened on 27 Aug 1795 in St. Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire County, England 11 and died in Mar 1872 in England 12.)
No parent info for her there ...
The GRO index does say Martin, not Parkinson.
1. Keturah Martin - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 20 JAN 1807 Hellingly, Sussex, England
but the site won't let me see the record ... neverending maintenance.

But you still aren't giving information!
When might this marriage have been, for starters?
Is there a known conneciton with the people in this thread, and if so, what?
Holroyd is the groom's name? so I'm not seeing the connection off the top.
The bride's mother's name won't be on any record (unless she happened to be a witness, on the marriage certificate).
But with info like her age and father's name ... and the date of the marriage ... it might be possible to find her in a census as a child, find her birth / parents' marriage ...

I honestly don't know
but you don't pay probate
Probate is granted to the eprson who has applied for it ........ usually the surviving spouse, child(ren), and / or a solicitor or lawyer.
This is how wikipedia explains it:-
"Probate is the legal process of administering the estate of a deceased person by resolving all claims and distributing the deceased person's property under the valid will. A surrogate court decides the validity of a testator's will. A probate interprets the instructions of the deceased, decides the executor as the personal representative of the estate, and adjudicates the interests of heirs and other parties who may have claims against the estate.
As with any legal proceeding, there are technical aspects to probate and trust administration: Creditors need to be notified and legal notices published. Trustees need to be guided in how and when to distribute assets and how to take creditors rights into account. A Petition to appoint a personal representative may need to be filed and Letters of Administration obtained.
In England and Wales, Northern Ireland, Commonwealth countries (common law jurisdictions), Ireland and in the U.S., probate ("official proving of a will") is obtained by executors of a will while Letters of Administration are granted where there are no executors"
and also:-
"Where a person dies leaving a will appointing an executor, and that executor validly disposes of the property of the deceased within England and Wales, then the estate will go to probate. However, if no will is left, or the will is invalid or incomplete in some way, then administrators must be appointed. They perform a similar role to the executor of a will but, where there are no instructions in a will, the administrators must distribute the estate of the deceased according to the rules laid down by statute and the common law.
Letter of administration: Upon the death of a person intestate, but leaving a will without appointing executors, or when the executors appointed by the will cannot or will not act, the Probate Division of the High Court of Justice or the local District Probate Registry will appoint an administrator who performs similar duties to an executor. The court does this by granting letters of administration to the person so entitled. Grants of administration may be either general or limited. A general grant occurs where the deceased has died intestate. The order in which the court will make general grants of letters follows the sequence:
The surviving spouse, or civil partner, as the case may be; The next of kin; The Crown; A creditor; A stranger. "
You may want to read that entry in wikipedia ....... I just googled "probate"
Most of our ancestors probably did not make wills ................. I don't know about yours, but mine were mainly lowly Ag Labs and lace makers!
sylvia
ps .... very definitely improved!!!

No probate shown for either Mary Jane or Martha
BTW ..... these are only Indexes of Probate or Administrations granted ................
each one tells you
..... name and address of deceased ..... date and place of death ..... name(s) and address(es) or eprsons granted probate or administration ..... amount of money in estate (or effects)
That is all ...... you have to buy the will to find out any more, such as who actually inherited the money.

A very interesting letter, appears J C Parkinson proported to be a friend of Charles Dickens!!
http://www.jstor.org/pss/20083025
He made Chairman of the Reform Club, and makes mention of the Times article 26th Oct 1908, i assume thats the same one Maureen has found you.
He died 24th October 1908.
So you'll need to find more about his Chairmanship now.
Someone called Pinero went to his funeral?
