And please don't delete as soon as you have been given information; such a waste of time.

Am I the only person who is bothered by people trying to find birth parents on here and submitting really personal information? I have visions of someone who has given a child up for adoption under very difficult and painful circumstances who may have then gone on to marry / re-marry and not told their spouse about the earlier birth. They then read about it on here and irreperable damage may be caused to those relationships.
There is a reason why social services and adoption agencies act as go betweens in such circumstances.
My own mother had a child to a man not her husband but I wouldn't dream of posting his details on here and causing unncessary upset to his innocent family.
Whilst I fully understand the need of adopted children to know their birthright I would just ask that they consider the implications of what they might post on here.

No Julie

you are not the only one to be bothered about this

We all go to some length (varying lengths!) to hide our own identity on here

...... and then too many post the most personal information about their immediate forebears.

I squirm when I see those requests ..... and the fact that some helpers answer in detail on the thread instead of sending a pm

I was a teenager in the 1950s ..................... and it was still very much a disgrace then to have a baby out of wedlock. Girls were sent away to have their baby in secret, the baby was then adopted. OR the couple was forced to get married.

Many of the women went on to marry other men ........ but the secret was usually kept within her family.

I actually refuse to help with modern lookups

Yet ...... like you, I do understand the desire to find one's family.

I just don't think it should be done through an open site like this

Thanks Joy ....... and sorry about the deletions!

Well done, Sylvia, and everyone who posts helpful advice like this (particularly the tips for newbies).

I've just renewed my GR membership - purely for the value that the GR Community provides.

If it wasn't for people like you, I wouldn't have bothered.

Thank you!

Liz
