Hi Derek...........Yes William Rutland again............but a different one.

I have three generations of William or James William........talk about trying my patience. The trend was broken with my grandfather George but of course, you guessed it......his eldest brother was William !!

William born 1818 married Emma Clark..........
their son also William born 1844 married Mary Ann Gregson or Grigson
and so it goes on with the William's

Thank you so much for the details of Mary Twiggs baptism, I was aware of Darley Dale but haven't heard of Darley Abbey - is wonderful that you have much local knowledge.
Have visited Ashbourne once many moons ago and before I knew my family originated from the area. Must get up their again sometime and have a good look around

If you have some time to spare would appreciate names of James Gregson ma and pa. Seem to have a name of Charles for his father but dont quite know where I got it from or if its correct.

Thanks again
Susan

Hello Susan..that old goat William Rutland again eh???..the one who married Emma Clark..before he married mary Ann Gregson???????

MARY ANN TWIGG..her origins vary..but since JAMES GREGSON was from Longord and they married at Ashbourne 1839..........I think it is fair to say that "Darley" is not Darley Dale..but is DARLEY ABBEY..a small Parish on the Ashbourne side of Derby...........where MARY ANN TWIGG was baptised 14.04.1822..daughter of John and Ann Twigg.

Mary Ann Gregson..one of several children of james and mary..sometimes called Grigson..and she married William Rutland 1884 in the Cheshire Registration District of Congleton.......William previous wife Emma (married 22.01.1844) died 1876..and William died 1887......

The gregsons are easy to trace cos they loved in longford all their lives.

Hi Derek,
Hope all is well.

Was wondering if you have a few minutes to spare could you confirm the mother of Mary Ann Gregson for me? PLEASE............

Think she was Mary Ann Twigg. who married James Gregson in Ashbourne in 1839........their daughter Mary Ann was born about 1863..maybe in Overseal, Derbyshire and married William Rutland at Biddulph, Staffordshire on 24 March 1884 (have confirmed this by copy cert which shows father as James BUT surname is shown as GRIGSON

Any additional information relating James Gregson and Mary Twigg's families would be gratefully received and appreciated if you have it.
........James may have originated from Longford and Mary from Darley, Derbyshire.

Thanks
Susan

Hi Derek,
Don't know whether your going to be able to help me or not. I keep hitting a brick wall. I'm looking for the marriage of William Ballington 1778-1861 and Temperance Matson 1772-1861.

Thank you

Julie

Hi Derek
Thanks for the info
Yes i had a feeling that Sarah was going to be hard to trace / sort out but you never know lost causes can be found with a fair wind etc.
Yes i would like info on the Powell's and Pearson's it might help in finding out more about Sarah.
as to the marriage of George and Fanny I have sent an image of the marriage cert to you.
again thank you for the help and insight

Mike

Michael Fitchett.............thank you for your PM.....though as i have replied, i prefer to communicate here on my thread......

ust to confirm that Sarah Fitchett appears as single parent in both baptisms you mention.........

I would welcome your observations on the possibility of George Powell Fitchett and his marriage to Fanny Parker............there is only one George Fitchett 1806 in the Aston Baptisms..............and George Powell Fitchett appears to be baptised 1806 aston on trent?????

If he is the right person, then Sarah had children by two men.Powell and Pearson.............and i can fill you in on both..

Sarah..I feel is a lost cause..unless she was born 1785 longford.......
I'll try and find a marriage for her.

Derek.

Thanks for this Derek, why are my lot such bloomin problems :-S

Derek

Derek Report 3 Aug 2012 11:13

well..at this moment i cannot explain it........we have the same in 1851 with Sarah Atherley unmarried..though the "u" has been interfered with and looks as much a "w"..................but I can tell you that Sarah Mansfield married Henry Atherley AMJ 1844..........................there appear to be two daughters with the name Agnes..one of them 21.11.1845 and the other 03.06.1849..but one coukdk be a birthdate and the other a baptism........or the second was a replacement for the death of the first...checking this out......

Just found another enigma for you. I have Richard and Rebecca on 1861 with Sarah unmarried in Simney Lane Repton. Work that out if you can ?????

LaGooner Report 2 Aug 2012 21:22

My goodness Derek you must be a mind reader I am just working on Agnes , Spooky or what ! I will now add other children. I cannot find trace of Agnes or Richard on 1851 any ideas as I have the parents with Henry as visitors elsewhere. Thank you

Derek

Derek Report 2 Aug 2012 20:22

Gooner..have discovered an anomaly..another one!!.....1871 give Francis Atherley son of thomas and Eliza (of overseal)............another source (Pedigree Resource File)..gives mother as EMMA nee BROWN..and a Francis Atherley10.05.1862.and a Francis T Atherley 03.04.1863........I regard this as dubious, but mention it only because you may come up against it........

For your information only:-
Agnes Atherley 21.11.1845
Richard Atherley 29.10.1848
Henry Atherley 01.06.1849
Rebecca Atherley 25.12.1853..........all baptised Newton Solney children of Henry Atherley and Sarah nee Mansfield....

LaGooner Report 2 Aug 2012 14:33

Sorry to confuse yet again :-S. :-D.

I am looking for the date of a baptism in Newton Solney of Francis Thomas Atherley about 1863.

You know you love my Meashams really ;-)

Derek

Derek Report 2 Aug 2012 12:04

Gooner.........mmmm.I have newton Solney records but I don't have marriages after 1837..but a bit of digging around has produced the following:

BMD's Derby registration district give MARY ATHERLEY married to WILLIAM MEASHAM third qtr 1844............alternatively there is:-

MARY ATHERLEY daughter of Francis Heatherley and Alice nee Johnson baptised 24.02.1822 married William Measham 14.07.1844.........looks like trouble at Mill again.......

I am in touch with someone who is descended from a different Measham branch to you..including a William or three......I'll check......

what makes you think she married at Newton Solney?

Derek.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 1 Aug 2012 22:25

Derek do you have parish records for Newton Solney please.

Also next visit to Matlock could you please take a look at a marriage for me. I am not sure who Mary Atherley (b 1820) married about 1844. I think it was William Smith but on another tree it says (wait for it) William Measham (b 1823) .

Thanks.
