Hello Sandie..you didn't give me much to go on, but t turned out to be enough...........GLADYS J SHIPLEY was born 1901 at newbould Chesterfield Derbys ..parents ISAAC SHIPLEY and MARY JANE SHEPARD who married at chesterfield 1896.........you may have had a problem there because the marriage entry on their Civil Registration actually switched their surnames. Wth my exoereince i was able to spot the mistake....you may have missed it, and therefore got no further,,,,, In fact ISAAC SHPLEY was the second husband of mary Jane..she having previously been married to one Edward Shepard.......they are on the 1891 Census as man and wife............which fact makes mary janes maiden name very elusive
GLADYS J SHIPLEY married Charles h Hobson JAS 1931 in Chesterfield registration District.
I have her siblings and her grandparents and other earlier relations......back as far as you like...............but my "expertise" apart from BMD Civil records.ends with 1911........so i have no information about The later life of Gladys..excpet one bit of very flimsy scandal..with nowt to back it up............one source says that she had an illegitimate child in 1922 a John henry Shipley ( 1922.1970 )who went on to marry Kathleen E Blackburn.(1925 - 2008..)

Thanks for these Derek. Certain names I think tie in with those on my tree. I don't know the Newark area at all. I know Lincoln area and that only because I spent a lot of time there as a child as my maternal Grandad and family lived and live there now.

Hello Gooner......the later Wiswould action seems to have taken place at North Muskham..but the earlier did not........
don't know if you know the area at all, but its a cluster of small villages (most of them parishes) around Newark. Trouble is there are an awful lot of them...But your JOHN WISWOULD appears to have been the second son of Thomas and Martha Wiswould of East Markham..close to the Muskams North and South..baptised 02.04.1759..replacing an earlier infant mortality John born 29.12.1756.
I am unable yet to find the marriage to Amelia...but he and Amelia seem to have had a son John 23.12.1774...at North Collingham ...........but i have a feeling that "Amelia" is in fact Millicent Slack who married John Wiswould of East Markham a Cordwainer at North Muskham.....02.01.1774.....
JOHN WISWOULD 1774 appears to have married MARY LIGHTFOOT at North Muskham 02.01.1798............had the following children.......Mary 15.10.1798/John 1801/Millicent 11.07.1803 and Lenord 26.09.1807
JOHN WISWOULD married Mary Buckland 15.01.1824 ( for want of better evidence i am assuming this is John 1801) and had Millicent 01.06.1824 and mary 28.02.1826........... ...........if I'm right I have found you four generations..which i offer as my best bet.
Derek.

Hi Derek,
Sorry to hear that you've been so poorly - hospital is not the best of places to be in for any length of time, least of all at Christmas.
Take care and I hope that you feel much better soon.

hi Derek Happy Xmas Do you think that this is the marriage of Sarah Turner, George' Turner mother if he was baptised in 1843 and she married George Taylor on 24th Dec 1842 in Cromford that could explain the name change later? If it is her i am right in thinking that her parents were Richard & Martha? sorry so many questions again but as you say not many Turners around then . I did get the discs showing all the births in Cromford & only two Geroge Turner listed the one as you said mother Sarah. Thanks again Sharon

Hi Derek,
Thank you for checking the Pakemans for me - I will certainly have a look at the Thomas Mould on the 1841 census. I managed to find a tithe map of SOTH c 1839 and it's very interesting to see just how much land was farmed by Thomas Mould and the Pakeman brothers.
Anyway - it's Christmas and the Kings Carols are on. So have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year.
Thank you for all your help - you have been wonderful !
Regards
Barbara :-)

Hello Barbara..what you say does make sense and was pretty well what i was implying..however..I have found a very interesting entry on the 1841 Census. Although the 1841 does not give relationships oe place of birth..from that entry it is simple to make the following judgements.........
Head of Household THOMAS MOULD born 1770..with a household full of PAKEMANS..including Francis 1801...........Thomas is the right age to be the brother of Frances Mould who married Francis Pakeman in 1794..and he is a Farmer....................which makes him quite obviously the UNCLE of Francis 1801..who equally obviously is the son of Francis and Frances.......my suggestion is that both Francis and Frances are dead, and the obvious place for their childre is on their uncle's farm!!..so...........
Francis14.08.1748 is the son of Francis and Dorothy???????????..he married Mary Dakin 19.04.1773.............and their son is your Francis 1769.....or thereabouts..........1769 seems to me to be a, shall we say, a date with some degree of flexibilty...........
Let me know what you think..and if you need to know anything about the later Pakemans.....let me know,
All the very best to you and yours for Christmas and the New year.

Hi Derek
Many thanks for having a dig around for me. I had an idea last night that might tie in with a couple of wills that I viewed at Lichfield Records Office for a Francis Pakeman (senior) dated 1820 and his son Francis (jnr) dated 1824.
I have a feeling in my waters that 1769 Francis could be the son of 1745 Francis who married Mary Dakin (his 2nd wife) and they had 4 sons that I can find on original records . 1745 Francis first marriage(1767) was to Ann Eaton and I can find one child from that marriage (Dorothy c 1770). Could 1769 Francis be their son ???
So if my theory is correct 1769 Francis died 1820 and his son Francis died 1824 (aged 55 Farmer of Sutton on the Hill) ........... now it's confirming this theory :-D

Hello Barbara.........to be honest i cannot find him....I'm still looking, but I though i'd answer you sooner rather than later.
The only scraps i can find are as follows..none of which answer the question, but may be candidates for his parents.......
Francis 14.08.1748 son of francis and Dorothy...who may be the Francis who married Mary Dakin 19.04.1773............one of your difficulties might be that your Francis COULD have been born before his parents married..clutching at straws a bit..but not impossible.
The only other Francis Pakeman baptisms I can find as yet are:-
15.10.1811..son of Charles and Dorothy ..and a John the son of the above Francis and Mary 15.02.1778......
having said that..these are all from Sutton on the Hill.......so I'll now look elsewhere.
Derek.
