Hi Derek!
OK - I'm trying again.

I'll look forward to hearing from you again with any message about Ann Alsop.

Are you able to find out anything about Derby Parish registers? My mother's relations are mainly from the town although her father was born in Lenton. I've hit a brick wall with one of her 2nd cousins, surname Ashby.

Thanks for your patient help!!

Hi derek

Thank you for looking for arthur Powney for me
lt did have on the census Derbyshire but l forgot how these places change county every now and then.

l have the Powney's on census from 1841-1911 except for William on the 1871 born to William and Hannah.
Could you tell me the name of the youngest child as l have bene given David born 1850 and Daniel 1854
The surname varies so much from Powney-Poney-Pountney to even Perny on the 1881.
l also have marriage certs of John and Emma and their son John Henry. arthur's older brother.
l have never been able to find out what happened to Arthur.
My husbands father died in the early 80s and of course l only started researching in the late 90s.
Thank you for all your effort and time
Kind regards
Pam

Hello pam...nice to hear frr4om you again..I think most of my previous adherents have found my new thread......pity that all the previous work is no longer on record..However.......

I can't find the baptism of Arthur powney yet because Burton-on-Trent is in Staffordshire not Derbys...although it might have been at one time..GENUKI says it is definitley divided from Derbyshire by the River Trent. Anyway it was a Staffordshire family..This is what i have found:-

WILLIAM POWNEY married HANNAH BRADLEY in 1836 Sedgeley Staffs. They had SIX children between 1837 and 1850.John died 1853

One of those children was JOHN POWNEY b 1837 Sedgley Staffs..who married EMMA FERRIS 1873

They are the parents of your Arthur..one of three children:

EDITH 1877
JOHN HENRY 1877
ARTHUR LOUIS (aka LEWIS 1880)

These three childen are on the 1891 Census with their parents..but can find no other sign of Arthur Lewis...the family moved to Prestwich near Salford lancs by 1901.

That's all i've got at the moment..but you know me..I keep looking!!

All the best

Derek

Good morning Sue..HENRY WIGLEY.brother of Hannah Martha Mary and your Harriet..married SARAH WATSON at Kniveton 22.06.1881..one of the witnesses was HARRIET (Now WEBSTER)

Henry at been one of the witnesses at the wedding of HARRIET and THOMAS WEBSTER 17.03.1880 as was his sister Mary Wigley.

Henry and Sarah Watson had EIGHT children:

Sarah 1882 Olive 1884 Alice 1885..all at Parwich

By 1891 they were back in Leek Staffs where they had Hannah 1892 (died 1964) Frank 1894 and George 1895

For some reason they are back in Kniveton for the births of Thomas 1899 and Nellie 1902, who are in the Kniveton records.

Thomas 31.12.1899 and nellie 28.12.1902

You presumably have researched the family of Harriet?

Hi Derek,
Quite a lot of information to take in but thanks to you I can now understand what happened. I come down the line from Harriet 1856 and she married into the Webster's who also lived Kniveton. I would be interested in the info on Henry Junior and Sarah's children/relatives.

Thanks Sue

Sue.further to my posting below:

HENRY WIGLEY married ANN(HANNAH) WINT at Kniveton 21.12.1840 by Banns........Ann was born 25.08.1819 at Wirksworth daughter of Samuel and Ann (she was batised 09.09.1821

Their children were......Hannah 1842/Martha 1847/Henry 1850 / Mary 1851 / Harriet 1856.

Henry junior married SARAH WATSON and had seven children between 1882 and 1902.if you want details let me know..after that we get into living relatives....which i can PM you if you like.
Although the Wigleys moved back to Staffordshire in the 1870' (Fenny Bentley near Ashbourne) and then to Osmaston Derby..there are still a large number in Kniveton....

Derek Report 1 Feb 2010 13:40

Hello again Sue..........I think we can now put this lot to bed...........forget the transportation man...total red herring.

SAMUEL HAND born Leek Staffs 01.01.1786 son of WILLIAM and MARTHA

He married HANNAH WIGLEY of Kniveton 1820.(daughter of JOB).....They had ONE child SAMUEL baptised 19.10.1821 who died 10 months later.

This was their only child!! because hannah had previously 02.02.1819 produced the illegitimate HENRY WIGLEY whilst she was still a spinster.

Thus the descendants of Hannah Hand (nee Wigley) were always WIGLEY and not HAND
SAMUEL senior was not transported in 1856 because he died in 1843!!
1851 Census shows HANNAH HAND Widow living with henry and his first three children.

She subsequently reassumned her maiden name..and is buried at Kniveton as Hannah Wigley aged 92 buried 04.10.1882.

more later
