Hello Sandra.this is not easy!!!..don't suppose you have his Marriage certificate?????? would tell us where he married Elsie and his father's name..........was he born in Derbyshire or Notts????

Have found your Wyld family..from Clay Cross..but moved to Arnold Nottingham..........the earlier children being born in Clay Cross..the later in Nottingham.

There are a number of George Farnsworth's..........one of whom was born in Clay Cross!!..but why would he move to Nottingham???

Possible clue is that both he and Elsie's father were Coal Miners.....and movement across the Notts and derbys Coalfields was very common.......but to tie him down would need some link between them........because my George Farnsworth is still in Clay Cross in 1901.

There is,at the moment absolutley nothing to place the right George in the right place........and I don't have records after 1911........

but I'll keep looking

Derek.

Hi Derek,
Having done such a good job on the Collis's I would appreciate knowing more on the Robinson side of my family.
My grandparents were Alfred Robinson b.1878, d,1965; & Sarah Haworth b.1876, d.1964, all in Derby. They had 4 children Mabel (my mother) 1905, Gladys ?, Richard ? & Jack ? .
They lived in Pittsburg, USA for a few years ,where my mother was born.
I would like to know more about my mothers siblings,b.d. & families, but even more interesting would be the history of my great grandparents & of corse as far back as you can go.
Really looking forward to some long awaited answers
Eric

Hello again Molly..........I like your analogy to a Soap.........you never know whats coming next in a history of intertwined families!!...One of the reasons That people seem to lke this Thread is that I actually work hard in the hope of giving you more than you're looking for....and i try to make it chatty and personal..........instead of the dry..sometimes inaccurate Copy and Paste merchants.........and in my case i try to deal only in facts....OK..here are some facts that you have waited a whole 24 hours to devour!!..........

John Gould 1679-1743 married Mary......

They had William Gould 1711..Elizabeth Gould 1714..and..

JOHN GOULD b1718.who married Elizabeth in 1743/1744

They had MARY 23.04.1745
JOHN 06.10.1746 and..

WILLIAM GOULD 17.11.1748.who married Margaret Slack

they had...

ELIZABETH 21,08.1784 died 21.11.1875
Hannah 10.11.1782
Ann 18.09.1788.who sadly died 24.09.1788.
and WILLIAM GOULD born 06.02.1786 christened 06.08.1786 he died 1870

William married Sarah Fearn 23.06.1806 (she was born 13.12.1787)

Their children were:-

Margaret b 05.11.1806 h 07.11.1806
Thomas b 05.07.1808 chr. 28.08.1808
Dorothy 08.04.1810 dies 25.02.1860
William 27.09.1812
Daniel 1815-1871
Joseph 27.10.1816.died 1871
Hannah 1818 died 1818
John 30.04.1820..married Mary 1850 died 16.02.1906
Margaret 16.12.1821 died 03.10.1823
Mary 23.06.1824
Job 30.10.1825 died 04.12.1829
Sarah 04.01.1829 died 24.04.1837

I have marriages and children for some of these........but time for a Commercial Break..this programme is brought to you...by someone who needs a large Scotch!!

(You may not realise that people read my Thread just for fun!!)

Hello Alison..........this could be difficult..because she does not appear to have been baptised at that time............maybe years later..which was quite common......but by 1901 she appears to have been a servant in another household.

NURSE CHILD......usually meant a child who was nursed, fed, and weaned..by someone else, because for some reason the mother was unable to do so.here is a possible..POSSIBLE ..scenario for you.

I have found two possibilities............On the 1891 Chapel en le Frith Census there is THOMAS VERNON aged 34 and his wife Olive 31 living with Olive's parents.(Potter)......no children........curious thing is she is shown as Olive Vernon on the local census..but on the National Census she is shown as Olive Potter..which means she married Thomas in 1891..which means that IF she had a child in 1888..it was possibly taken from her.

More likely..but still only possible..is Helena Edith Vernons entry on the 1891 that you pointed me to. If you look carefull you will see that the Head of Household is a Samuel Towle..with a 2 year old grandson John Gough..clealry being nursed along with hHelena Edith.....

..what is compelling about this crazy idea of mine.....take another look at your 1891 census..and you will see living NEXT DOOR..is JOHN VERNON 33 and his wife Mary aged 35...maybe getting on a bit to be able to nurse her own vhild.....Vernon and JOwle are both Limestone Quarrymen..probably work together. and are mates.......so why not help out with his mates daughter????????????....

I might be tempted to suggest that John and Mary are the parents you're looking for..........but then I never encourage speculation on here!!..best i can do in this case

Derek Report 2 Jun 2010 09:32

Sandra good morning..can't get much more, because the 17thc records do not give both parents..this is true of the Duffield Records..so even if I find Keetons or Keightons there is no way of working out who belomngs to who.........and the originals are virtually impossible to read that far back.

Hi Molly..have been working on this all night.....Can now confirm that WILLIAM GOULD 17.11.1748 was the third child of JOHN GOULD 1718-1791 and his wife Elizabeth.......John was himself one of three siblings(William 1711 and Elizabeth 1714) children of John Gould1679-1743 and Mary....
There are five generations of JOHN GOULD going back to 1598..but I can't confirm them...........all that I have here IS confirmed....
WILLIAM GOULD had two siblings..Mary 23.04.1745 and John 06.10.1746

He married Margaret Slack as we know and had four children..including William 1786..who married Sarah Fearn.

Have been working tonight on the dates for all their children and grandchildren...all done and dusted.........but I'll tease you till to0morrow..
Goodnight

Mark....went on one of my little rambles yesterday, and found Upper Langwith Church..took a photo if you want it...rather pleasant ..Interesting fact is that no member of the Marsh Family was ever buried at Langwith...which rather supports the idea that they were born in Langwith..then moved away..to Scarcliff and eventually to your neck of the woods..by the way Letwell is near Rotherham.....still very much in that S.Yorks/Derbys/Notts border area.
I have all the Marsh's now....and will get around to adding them..but as you can see I have been busy..

Hello Sandra......re KEETONS......I have been working on this....RICHARD KEETON born 1689 married ELIZABETH ATKIN at St.Alkmunds Duffield 28.03.1714.......I believe that their son Richard was born at Duffield 1729..not 1734..and he married ELIZABETH BRIGGS, again at Duffield 05.05.1754............the marriage is correct......I know they had George 1765 and Samuel 1767......I'll check what happened next..though your children for George appear right..I've been out all day and its now very late..so bear with me.
EDIT 00.26.have now confirmed Richard 1729 Duffield..so you can forget my first mention of Richard 1734 Ordsall Notts..I thought it was too far away!..Have also got the baptisms of all the children of George Keeton and Betty Sims........tomorrow!!

Hi Molly..sorry to keep you waiting.....WILLIAM GOULD was baptised at Brassington 17.11.1748.....and died there in 1794..........I don't have the Brassington Records so I'll need to go to Matlock to get any further..There are two conflicting possible parents for William
JOHN..........and a THOMAS and GRACE.......neither is entirely comfortable.....but I have more information on the background of JOHN than I do on the other pair........hold fire on this..I'll try and sort it.......Until I find the paents I can't confirm siblings.

But i can tell you that WILLIAM 1786 (born 06.02.1786 baptised 06.08.1786..son of William and Margaret Slack(1760-1790) who married at Brassington 13.08.1782.....married SARAH FEARN and had 11 children

more later
