Linda.I'm sorry..i have no idea about anything after 1911..my "expertise" is built on Parish records..before and after 1841: backed up by census returns..from 1841 - 1911......and several other sources that run out long before 1911..

I have to admit I cannot help you..........though next time i go to Matlock records Office i'll ask for expert help on your behalf.

Hi Derek,
Phew!......talk about speedy Gonzalez!!!! I've only just took in all the other info, but very excited and very grateful for all your help.
George and Sarah Hoggett were my Mum's Grandparents and lived near to where I live.
If you go on Google Map(street view) you can travel all around an area, which may be useful to all Tree owners wanting to visit their chosen area.

Adios Amigo

Hello joyce..Linda has also confirmed the marriage of Thomas Fox and Elizabeth Earp June 1850....I found it at Burton on Trent..and she at Church Broughton.........BOT is the registration district for CB.

Ok....The Earps originate in Alrewas/Weston on Trent..to which i'll return later.........and your Thomas an elizabeth had.by 1871 removed to Liscard...which is Wallasey in Cheshire....the Hoggetts were from Liverpool....and ended up next door to each other in 1901.

ELIZABETH EARP baptised 16.11.1828 Church Broughton..daughter of WILLIAM Earp b 1800 and Sarah Moorecroft
who in turn was the son of Abraham Earp and Frances....Abraham I believe lived 1779-1868

Will return to these another time and give you chapter and verse.

We know that Thomas and Elizabeth were married 1850..and here is the full list of their chldren:

Maryann.1851
Abraham 1853
Fanny 1857
Maria 1858
William 1860
SARAH E 1868..who married your George HOGGETT...
Cecilia 1876......

I queried Cecilia at first because in 1881 Abraham had returned home to his parents and i suspected she was HIS daughter..but not so..because in 1891 she is definitely shown as having parents Thomas and Elizabeth...virile old goat!!..He died before 1901.

I have all the details for both the Foxes and the Hoggetts.down to 1911 if you want them for your Tree...let me know.
In your tree..it is convention to give female daughters with their maiden name...so as to avoid confusion...like your are Joyce Owen....not Lowe nee Owen......
Elizabeth should go in as Elizabeth Earp..not Fox nee Earp.......much easier to follow....

Will return to you when i have more time....like later on tonight.
EDIT 1542........ABRAHAM EARP baptised Weston on Trent 29.09.1779..died Alrewas Staffs 16.03.1868.

married FRANCES KNIVETON at rolleston on Dove Burton on trent 14.04.1800.
...son of......
JOHN EARP who married ANN BATHEW at Walton on trent 21.11.1763

More later

Thanks Derek, I never make life easy for you with my family!! you have got the correct parents so on the right track. I can remember my mum saying that my great aunt Rosa moved to Jersey or Gurnsey after she married. Any idea of a site I could check. I take it you could not find a marriage for James.

Many thanks

Hi Derek,

I think I may have found Thomas and Sarah. Would you please check the census for me when you have the time to see if you agree.

In 1881
Thos Colman born c1850 Norwich Norfolk, coal miner. He is a lodger and shown as married.
Sarah is with her parents George and Elizabeth Jagger in Chesterfield. She has her daughter Clara Elisa with her.

In 1891
Thomas Colman born c1850 in Chesterfield (not Norfolk), coal miner.
Sarah E Colman born c1851 in Chesterfield

Children
George 20
Clara 14
Ethel 9
Louisa 8
May 1
Living in Handsworth Yorkshire

In 1901
Thomas Colman born c1850 this time in Norfolk, coal miner.
With him are daughters Louisa and May and still living in Handsworth.

I do believe this is the same family, unsure why the change in pklace of birth for Thomas in the 1891 census.

I believe Sarah died in 1898 and Thomas in 1907, both registered in Sheffield district.

Regards

Chris

Hi Derek,

Thank you so much for what you have found.

I have to admit I've been struggling trying to find what became of Thomas and Sarah. I had seen a submitted entry naming Robert and Ann as parents of Jeremiah but no extracted entry.

I now just need Florences marriage certificate to prove I have the right family. I think I will see if I can find anything on Thomas, ,may I ask where you found the info regarding the larceny.

Regards

Chris

Derek Report 14 Jan 2011 22:55

Hi chrissie......thank you for your PM. regsrding FLORENCE COLMAN...wierd story in some ways.........so as not ot keep you waiting...here is what i have found up to now....

FLORENCE COLMAN was indeed born 23.11.1874..but not christened till 17.01.1889..........a very good example of my frequent warnings that baptisms often happened ages after birth..but 15 years is a bit extreme even in my experience.........but i have a theory as to why..to which i shall return.

The Colman family are from Norfolk..and are vaguely related to the Colman Mustard family......don't get carried away..I said VAGUELY...

JEREMIAH COLMAN was born at Forncett Norfolk in 1807..died in Chesterfield in 1894.

He married ELIZA FORSMAN at Diss in Norfolk January 1844

He was a Gardener...probably quiyte a good one.possibly a landscape gardener..because he moved to Chesterfield (Newbold is part of Chesterfield) ion about 1878-1880...

Jeremiah and Eliza appear to have had four children..all in Norfolk
Henry 1848
THOMAS 1850.(baptised 04.05.1851).married Sarah..father of FLORENCE
Hannah 1856
William 1859

According to the 1861 Census Eliza was not living at home.

Gets a bit difficult from here on ..

In 1867 Jeremiah and his son Thomas are up before the Norwich County Court for alleged Larceny.......Jeremiah was found not guilty..but Thomas was sentenced to Six Months imprisonment........

Gap to 1881......Jeremiah and Eliza are now living at Highfield lane Newbold Derbyshire..he is still a gardener......THomas and Sarah have disappeared off the map completely..........if he was a bit dodgy he may have been sent off to Australia..no proof but he never appears again..nor does Sarah........but..and now we come to your original question..siblings of Florence.......

Clara Elizabeth Colman born 1862 appears to be the youngest daughter of Jeremiah and Eliza.......plus Florence born 1874 daughter of Thomas an Sarah......and Harry 1875 "daughter" of Thomas and Sarah......1891 Census.........Harry must surely be Harriet.......living with Jeremiah and Eliza.........nobody else..where have they all gone??

Innit exciting!!! ( by the way.can take you back another generation..parents of Jeremiah Colman were Robert and Ann Colman)

More as i find it........

Derek.

Hi Derek, way back in 2009 you said you had some East Riding data. and I wondered if you had either the death or remarriage of Phillippa Kerrison, She was living in Hull in the 1861 census with her daughter Martha Elizabeth -then I can find nothing! her husband Charles Cooper Sunman Kerrison is sailing back and forth on a ship from Panama to Australia in 1866 and her daughter was living as a boarder in Great Yarmouth. It's a long shot, especially as both the names Phillippa and Kerrison are ofter mis transcribed, thanks

Jeannette.thank you for your PM regarding Joseph Green et al.

I can confirm that JOSEPH GREEN was baptised 21.11.1875 son of George and Sarah..in lenton Nottingham. Although I have not yet found the marriage, it appears that Sarah came from Bolsover Derbyshire.

There are at least two siblings for Joseph......Henry 1864 and Arthur 1868..born in Nottingham..and of course JOSEPH was born at Eckington.

In 1901 Joseph and Evelyn are living in John Street Eckington with their children William H Green 1899 and Ada 1892.
Interestingly the 1911 Census shows Joseph Green living at 26 John Street Eckington..with a couple with the Surname BARLOW.....even more interestingly......next door ar living HERBERT MARPER (1854) and Hannah his wife..who are clearly the parents of Joseph.....

As for the Marper family..the earliets mention is the marriage of JAMES MARPER to HANNAH TURNER 15.06.1761......have not yet found a definite link to JOSEPH and Elizabeth Marper.....who were the parents of GEORGE MARPER (married Elizabeth Young)..who were the parents of the following:

Mary 1834
Hannah 1840
George 1842 (13.07.1842)
William 1845
Isaac 31.05.1848
Henry 13.04.1851
HERBERT 02.01.1854
Sarah Ann 28.06.1857

Hannah Maria WHITE wife of Herbert Marper and mother of Evelyn was boen 22.10.1854..daughter of Joseph White and Sarah.
I hope this helps..if you want me to go further let me know.
