Find Ancestors

Hi Derek,

I do have all the other information you have provided but I was particularly interested in Henry as I knew Joseph and Patience had a child but on all records I have found he was down as Major or on one census Mary a son, they were Tinkers/Gypsies so that would fit that they were only there for a short while.

It was only the other day I found a Patience born at around the right time and the only one in the area where she said she was born and her fathers name was Henry, my ancestor that I was searching for (Major) said he was born in Derbyshire but all the siblings were born in Warwickshire, he was the only one I couldn't find a baptism record for but the Patience I found had a father called Henry and I know everyone seemed to name their children after fathers, brothers etc. Later on they had a son called Joseph.

Many thanks for your help I should imagine that this is the one I have been searching for for sometime now I just have to try and find his marriage which could have been anywhere in the country.

Hello Staffslass........this is a conundrum......HENRY CLAYTON baptised 26.12.1824 at Stanton-by Bridge son of Joseph and Patience is correct.

BUT.a very big but..Father (Joseph) is described as "Sojourner"...i.e. Visitor...literally "passing through".........He may only have been in Stanton for a very short time.....

There is no indication of where he came from..and its the only CLAYTON baptism in the Stanton records.....

Finding Joseph is a nightmare..but i have found a clue....which may or may not fit into anything you already have.

I went through all the JOSEPH CLAYTON marriages on IGI..and there is only one possibility..

JOSEPH CLAYTON born c1798 Oxfordshire married Patience (no surname) at Witton Warwickshire in 1818.......very sketchy and not to be relied on..but its the only one I can find.and I can't find them on the 1841 Census......

Good morning Sylvia..I can confirm all of your findings except there is a gap in the Bonsall Baptisms1745-1750..so ADAM SMEDLEY is approximate..He died 08.01.1809 aged 61..giving approc dob 1748.
Alice was buried 26.07.1837 aged 80..approx dob 1757..though she is not in the Bonsall baptisms.

Children of John and Hannah LEEDHAM (four Leedham families in Register as opposed to millions of Needhams)

Mary 1807..not in register anywhere.

What i have are submitted enties from IGI, i know they are not always right.

hope you are keeping well i reminded you on 31st jan about a look up of the marriage of william sweeting and ann copson just to let you know i now have the certificate ,so as not to waste your time looking as i know your busy.
could i ask about william he was supposed to be born crich derbyshire or doncaster (cork ireland which i presume is wrong as it only says doncaster) on the census. what i was wondering if you could find a baptism of william sweeting 1811 father john shoemaker in or around derbyshire

Thank you Derek, i think James Gratton b.1767 was a Shoemaker, thats if i have the right 1841 census, Theres a Henry with him age 30, who i don`t have,

Hello Sylvia.....no occupations till well into the 19th Century..usually on Marriage Records..recording Father's Occupation, and of cours on the Censuses 1841 onwards.

Yep one of the main occupations was Lead/Stone and Marble mining.and mainly Agricultural jobs.....after about 1800..Framework Knitting was one of the main occupations........

good morning Sylvia....yep..they were first cousins.....there are so many Grattons.Ferns. and Marples at Bonsall..that I could probably show all sorts of relationships between them........depends on how far you want to go with your Family Tree..........I have previously researched the Marple family for somebody on GR.....it's a massive Derbyshire family.
