wow, never actually used this part of the website...you people are amazing!
I wish I had more time for this hobby, I can only really indulge during the holidays as I am a teacher, and with 4 of my own I rarely get time then! BUT I have a fair amount of info about my husband's mother's family, all living around clay cross, and moving from villages further away. most were miners and before that labourers. one very confusing ancestor is a WILLIAM BOWEN, 1856, who was the father of annie bowen, married to walter bradshaw, the whole family are in clay cross but he was born in bayton, worcestershire?
what a ramble, sorry. but you have all inspired me to carry on searching, thanks!!!!!
xx

Hi Quoy..unfortunately my Derbyshire Phillimore Marriage disc is damaged.and contains the Sawley marriages......once Bank Holiday is over I'm going to Matlock Records Office..where I'll find what you want.

..usually I can find your info in other sources, but in this case the nearest I can get is a marriage of William Stevenson to Elizabeth Clayton at Hucknall 12.02.1804.......

I'll get back to you.

William Goodwin married Rebecca Kirk at Chesterfield 24.06.1805

REBECCA was baptised Chesterfield 02.09.1787 daughter of Samuel

WILLIAM was baptised Chesterfield 12.06.1785 son of Abraham.

Way back when you were lucky to get both parents names on Baptism Records....

However..me being who I am (!)....have looked further and have found at least a clue.....I think a firm clue..but not 100%

18.02.1783 Samuel Kirk married ESTHER HEATHCOTE at Chesterfield.

c.1780 ABRAHAM GOODWIN married HANNA.............??

I'll dig further cos its you!!

Hello Rockfish..must say that \i am a bit bemused that you have no information to offer about your Ludlam's....
However..I have looked at the Ludlam's that are specifically recorded as coming from Oakerthorpe..and there are two families..90 years apart.......

PETER LUDLAM married ANN TOPHAM 25.01.1785 and had the following children:-
Sarah baptised 18.05.1788
Ann baptised 31.10.1790
Elizabeth 24.04.1796

PHINEAS and HANNAH LUDLAM............had the following children

Elizabeth Ann baptised 23.03.1875
Thomas 31.10.1875
a strange gap of only seven months..but bear in mind that Parish Records give BAPTISMS not BIRTHS.

Clearly there is a lot more........but I await your pleasure before delving deeper.

Derek.

Hello Jenny..sorry for the delay..but I am working hard putting together a package for your BlackburnsLivingstones and Blanchards......

There appears nowhere to be a marriage for Christiana Blanchard to William livingstone..which may explain why every child of that union is a Blanchard Livingstone...........I suggest...That they may have never married......

Hagg in Cornwall seems not to exist..even though it is shown as Christiana's birthplace on two Census years..but a third Census shows St Elwin..which is in the Parish of Hayle in Cornwall......so looks like mistranscriptions all over the place......

Yes..there is a Christiana Blanchard born in Lincolnshire about the right
time..but there are also two more in Yorkshire......all of which |i reject..because with the Livingstones being from Portsmouth/Southampton..and the Blanchard also coming from the south Coast.as in Dorset and Wiltshire.........I think its a fair bet that Christiana was also from..if not born in,the West Country...i.e Cornwall..three consecutive Censuses.........and they all lead to Lydd in Kent, via our sea-faring Portsmouth/Chatham//Livingstones.

more soon

Derek.

Hello Derek

Still no joy with any details of a wedding between Christiana Blanchard and William Livingstone.

Just wondering if Hagg, Cornwall could in fact be a district in Lincolnshire?

Many thanks for all your help

Sharon..sorry for the delay..have been meaning to go to Matlock..but have had one or two horrors in the last few weeks.
I now intend definitely to go next week

Trouble is the Duffield Records have gaps..and Duffield is the Parish you want...........and Matlock is the only way of sorting it.

Derek Report 22 Apr 2011 17:53

Chrissie..the census showed she was born in Manchester..also showed he mother came from Manchester..and that the marriage between Henry and Mary took place here..........I do have access to some Lancashire records..which gave the DOB of (Selina)Betsy..and of the marriage....there were definitely no other baptisms...which is not to say there were no births..perhaps died in infancy without being baptised...or even miscarried.
Mind you its not that uncommon to have gaps.

Best wishes as always.

Derek.

Hi Derek,

Thank you so much for the info you have found. May I ask where you found the info regarding Selina. I was surprised to see that she had died in Ireland.

Thank you for giving me Henrys mothers maiden name too.

Do you know if Henry and Mary had had any other children between Betsey and James, I thought 9 years was quite a gap between children.

A very grateful

Chrissie

Hello Chrissie........nice to hear from you again....

I can confirm your baptism dates from Parish Records....and can tidy up some points;

Henry Needham son of John and Mary (nee Botham)..baptised Barlow 13.05.1818.....

married MARY DALE...at Cathedral Manchester 16.07.1839
she was a Manchester girl....my great great grandfather did exactly the same thing...in 1836..went over the hills to Manchester and brought his bride back to Derbyshire.....was a very common thing..

Their first child Selina Jane Needham was born in Manchester..baptised there 21.08.1841.

The rest of the children were baptised on the dates you have..at Barlow..including James Arnold Needham 01,06.1856.

Incidentally \henry was still going strong in 1901....and I have all the \census information for this family

Selina Jane Needham , by the way , died in Ireland 03.08.1874
In 1891:-
Henry(widower) was living at Top Common in Barlow..with his son James (and wife Sarah Rebecca) were living next door......

any more needed ..let me know

Derek

Hi Derek,

I'd like more help please if you don't mind.

I am looking for the marriage of Henry Needham c1820 at Barlow to Mary ? c1816 at Barlow, also their baptisms if that's possible.

I have found what I believe to be their first child, Jane c1841 although I haven't found her baptism. The other children I have found are
Henry bapt 6/11/1842
George bapt 28/9/1845
Betsey bapt 1/8/47
James bapt 1/6/1856 ( submitted entry)

baptism dates are from the IGI, bit of a gap between Betsey (my line) and James don't you think.

Thank you and hope you are well.

Chrissie
