Hi again Gooner.there is one very obvious answer........the Gilbert Measham who married Elizabeth Stanley was not born in 1747...........what information and Source do you have that he was????

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 12 Sep 2015 22:09

Can't remember the source Derek. I have not worked on them for so long that I will have to dig out all my notes and see if I can find where I got it. Bear with me I have had a big exhibition on yesterday and today and need to get my archive at the History Society in order as everything just got dumped in there after clearing the hall.
In the meantime can you please keep looking at the family for me and see if we can sort the Gilberts out.

Been in touch again soon

LaGooner Report 14 Sep 2015 19:02

Evening Derek, just had chance to look for that Gilbert and Elizabeth and cannot find where I got it from. Maybe this is wrong then and I got it from an unreliable source without checking it. Very unusual for me :-| :-| :-|

Derek Report 14 Sep 2015 22:28

Hello LA........I think we might have to accept that Gilbert Measham ( Measome) 1747 born Repton is a bad mistake, and is probably responsible for your own years of frustration.
He is definitely NOT in the Repton Baptisms, as far as they are readable........I have today confirmed that with three hours in the Matlock Records Office.

However, the marriage of Gilbert Measham to Elizabeth Stanley is incontrovertible.
as is a baptism of William Measham at Repton in 1747..........whilst at the same time there is no appropriate baptism at Repton for Elizabeth Stanley......

An idea i have, and which i am now attempting to give substance to, is that William Measham 1747 MIGHT have been a sibling of Gilbert Measham..and that Elizabeth Stanley may have been previously married when she married Gilbert...which could mean tha they both might have been considerably older that 1747.........................

Thank you Derek, William is yet another popular name in this lot :-D. Hmmm the plot thickens ;-) I wonder if we will ever sort this lot out.

LaGooner Report 15 Sep 2015 16:29

Hi again Derek, I have been browsing at trees on Ancestry and found that someone on there has Gilbert Measham born 1776 born to William Measham and Ann Tunnicliffe.(they married Ashbourne) Ann died 1779 ? and he remarried Elizabeth Mowbray in 1779 and proceeded to have 2 children Henry 1780 and William 1788.

What do you make of this revelation :-S :-S :-S :-S.

Derek

Derek Report 15 Sep 2015 17:48

Yep..that's exactly right..it was that William that was born 1747..and the information on that particular Tree is supported by Parish Records......I'm trying to find out if Elizabeth Stanley was previously married.....

Ah now that ties in. Many thanks Derek I am still trying to look for any clues that I can find to give us a direction to follow.

Good Evening Derek,
Please could I ask if you could find anything for Jesse Wild, he was baptised : 17th Feb 1788, Mellor Derbyshire his parents are: James and Ann Wild, if poss, would you be able to track down Anns maiden name ...Regards Gwen

Derek

Derek Report 15 Sep 2015 23:29

Hello Gwen..difficult,,because there is a gap in the Mellor Marriages seem to end in 1775..... However..it is not beyond the bounds that they married at Glossop in 1769...

I offer you the following as a possibility. no more...
James Wild married ANN ASHTON at Glossop 19.12.1769...his brother:
John Ashton married Mary Wooley on the same day..their father's name was Samuel Wild.

It might sound a bit early, but not impossible.

Jesse was baptised as you say 11.02.1788
Margaret was baptised 14.05.1793..died 24.05.1793
Mary was baptised 17.04.1805
There may be some earlier baptisms at Glossop...........in my experience very large families were bred over a very wide number of years.......

But as i said..its my best guess at the moment.

Derek.

Derek, can you help me please? John WILLIAMSON married Mary Smith on the 31 dec 1821 in Ellastone, staffs. On the parish records it states he is from Mappleton, derbyshire. He is born c1800 and died quite young 1847. I have his death cert.
Would really like to know who his parents were and if he had siblings. Dont know how to go about this. Can you help? Thanks

Derek

Derek Report 29 Sep 2015 12:32

Hello Judith..just to let you know that I am not ignoring you........but I haven't found an answer yet..........
I have found the marriage you mention, together with five baptisms at Ellastone of children of John and Mary Williamson between 1824 and 1836..which dates suggest that these are your John and Mary, with out completely proving it.
At Mappleton I cannot find a baptism for John.........don't forget the information that John was "from" Mappleton means only that he was living there at the time of his Marriage..........not that he was either born or baptised there.........

However, there are two Mappleton marriages of potentially the correct (or near) time-scale, that MIGHT give you a lead to parents of John Williamson born c.1800.
The are:
John Williamson and Melisent Foster married Mappleton 13.09.1783
George Williamson married Ellen Woodhouse at Mappleton 16.12.1788.....

Either of these might ring a bell or two..

all the best

Derek.

Hi Derek, another Measham for you,

William born 1746 Repton. That is all I know about him except that he married Ann Tunnicliffe in 1773.Any names for parents at all ? I believe they had at least 4 children Gilbert(he married Mary Meakin), Elizabeth, Henry and William. Can you check their baptism dates for me and also see if there were any more as it seems a small family for this lot :-D.

Thank You

Derek

Derek Report 10 Oct 2015 15:21

Hello Gooner..............we've been here before, and pretty well everything is known about his life after the Ashbourne wedding to Ann Tunnicliffe.but nothing before.
A large number of Trees on Ancestry all say the same thing........bearing in mind that most of them are simply copied, without bothering to research..it is still odd that NOBODY has him.
I can tell you that he is not in the Repton Baptisms, and the marriage to Ann does not state any parents. I can only assume that like so many annoying little so and so's..he was not baptised.
I notice that the tree that you sent me has no mention of him either.
I think I have to admit defeat on this one.
Derek.

Thanks Derek. I thought that might be the case but just checking before I lay him to rest.

Hello again Derek, hope all is well with you.

Can you please try and find details of parents and siblings of

Catherine Duckers born 1815 Bretby I believe. She married William Thorp in Liverpool 1836. I think her parents were John and Mary but as this is from an Ancestry tree it will need checking. She died 1881 in Repton and is buried in St Wystans.

Many thanks.
