Derek Report 14 Oct 2013 20:30

Hello Lorraine......you have given me a nightmare!!.........Until, that is,I was able to work out a sort of Chronology that might go back to early 17th century.

The Hibberts/Hibberds/Hibbards..are easy..and I have researched them till I'm blue in the face...three different enquiries..different sources...same extended family!!..going back to Apperknowle, by the way........

There was a stronghold of TALLENTS/TALENTS/TALLANTS.....starting at Sutton cum Duckmanton....through Heath..and on to North Wingfield and other places......You may noy know that all three of these places are within spitting distance of each other.

That being the case I have found what may be a logical sequence, but I do not offer it as 100%...........it's a possibility..based on the fact that there is only one possible MARY TALLENTS of the right age..(that I can find..and believe me I've been in three Counties..not literally!)..and on the likelihood that MARY was 17 when she married George Hibberd. 09.07.1755

Which takes us to GODFREY and MARY TALLANTS of Sutton cum Duckmanton,.and two children baptised in Heath:-

MARY TALLENTS (spelling magnificently interchangeable!!) 05.06.1738
WILLIAM TALLANTS 10.01.1740..............it takes only a small leap of faith to believe that they then moved to North Wingfield.....and you asked about the possibility of Elizabeth being a sister of Mary????????..well..this quite brilliant (and probably totally erroneous) scenario says YES!.......becasue they had two daughters called ELIZABETH TALLENTS (they being Godfrey and Mary)..the first baptised NW 15.06.1744.and clearly died..and the second 08.01.1748......who mat well be the lady of the 1777 marriage..........

this is not completely though through..but i thought i'd better get back to you sooner rather than later......lolol
EDIT.....North Wingfield burial 01.11.1744 Elizabeth Tallants infant daughter of Godfrey and Mary

Hey little Lozza.......I can find no sign of Hephzibah anywhere........as for George Hibbert.I do not rely on Family Search......although there is a Burial of a george hibbert 04.03.1755 in the PR's

I am happy that George Hibbert was baptised 11.08.1730 son of Ambrose and Catherine....not entirly happy that George HIBBARD married Mary TALLANTS 09.07.1752...........but you have to remember that there are two points at least where spellings can vary......the writing odwn in the first place, and any ne of a number of transcriptions....Hibbert/Hibberd/Hibbard seem to be interchangeable even in the same proven family

Hi Derek,

Couple of strands I'm looking for, I'm trying find Anne Coope who married Samuel Hemingray of Heage in 1850. Her father is Isaac but struggling to find her before then.

Also, Samuel Hemingray's father is Thomas Hemingray. His wife is Mary, I belive her maiden name may have been Cudworth? Again, struggling to go back any further but possibly this could be where the name derivated from Hemingway??

Any light you can throw would be much appreciated.

Derek Report 17 Oct 2013 00:14

Lorraine..............no suggestion that George Hibbert didn't marry Mary Tallants.........of course he did. xx

Derek

Derek Report 17 Oct 2013 01:05

Hello Neil.........Hemmingway/Hemmingray/Hemmingway//appear to be arbitrarily interchangeable........all your players appear spelt pretty well according to what mood you're in........althought Samuel and Ann are hemingray on the 1851.1861.1861 census..and Hemingway on the next three.......a good long record of their marriage which i'm sure you have access to.
Sammuel \hemingway was the son of thomas Hemmingray!! and Mary nee Cudowrth..baptised 11.02.1827............Thomas and mary were married at Duffield 26.12.1825

Samuel Hemmingway married Ann(e) Coope at Heage 14.04.1850.....her younger sister Martha was one of the witnesses.(Civil registration has him as HemingrayAMJ 1850).

Anne/Ann/Hannah Coup/.Coop/ Coope..was baptised18.12.1825 at Heage..daughter of Issac and Hannah nee Storer.who married at Duffield 30.03.1818.........they appear on the 1841 census.....

Hello Derek.........hope you are enjoying a large scotch on this wet and windy
night !!

Another one for you, if possible.....

Am trying to confirm parents of HANNAH TOWNSHEND who was married to George Jackson in 1829 in Derby. In 1840 in Hope Street, Derby.

May have been born about 1810 in St Peters, Derby ????

Found a baptism on familysearch 1809 at ST ALKMUNDS, DERBY.........PARENTS, THOMAS TOWNSEND & ELIZABETH...........suspect may be right one but not entirely sure. If its is my Hannah, any background on Thomas and Elizabeth would be wonderful.

Many Thanks
Susan :-)

Derek

Derek Report 26 Oct 2013 18:37

Hello Susan.......I think you can be sure you have the right parents......HANNAH appears to have been the eldest of three children of Thomas and Elizabeth:-

Hannah baptised 20.04.1809
William baptised 13.05.1811
Samuel baptised 11.07.1813.

all at St.Alkmund Derby.........

I have been all through the Derby marriages for the few years either side of 1809..and can find nothing.....Thomas Townshend MAY have been born 30.11.1763 son of Alice..at St Werbergh.

Thank you SO much Derek........thought it was probably the right HANNAH but not aware of any siblings. Knew I could count on you....

Are there any further details of ALICE, potential mother of THOMAS TOWNSHEND - TOWNSEND or am I correct in assuming as no fathers details in the parish register he was the result of a bit of naughtiness..............expect this may be the end of this line........unless of course you know different !!!!

On another subject........did you manage to find any of my elusive GREATOREX lot?

Ta very muchly for your continued help

Susan

Hi Derek,

Kettles on.
Thank you for the info on Gilbert/Burrows. I found the marriage of Pharoah Burrows and Ann Meakin this afternoon. Nothing came up when I looked under his name but it did when I just used Anns name. It took place in Basford district in 1860.

I'll do a bit more research now you've given me something to work with then I'll come back to you if I may.

Regards

Chrissie x

Hi Derek,
I do hope that you are keeping well. I have hit a brick wall (with one of my husband's ancestors this time) and I need your expert help yet again please :-D

'Martha' born in Elton, Derbyshire in about 1840.

I don't know her surname and I can't find any record of her birth. (Is this already an impossible task?! :-S)
I know she married a William Preston Hodgson born 1842 In Kirkham Lancs (son of George Hodgson and Mary Preston), but can't find any trace of a marriage?
She had 3 children - George, Mary Elizabeth & John William - maybe a fourth one named Joseph but am not 100% sure about him.
They all lived in Blackburn to start with then moved to Little Eaton, Derbys.
Her son George married a Derbyshire woman (Sarah Boam) who unfortunately died, so he went on to marry a Belgian woman (Valerie Gyselynck) and he ended his days in Ashbourne.
I would be very grateful if you could see if Martha exists anywhere in the Elton records. Although as I write this I can see that unless she actually married William P Hodgson in Elton it will be like looking for a needle in a haystack :-(.
Many thanks,
Anne :-)
