Hi Derek,
Just to let you know that I already know your'e here - you have already looked for my Charles Wells c.1807 (still my brick wall)
The tree on the Hopkinson family is part of the tree I am doing for my granddaughter (son in law) but it is in PAF5 on my computer and will not be merged (as gedcom) with my G.R. tree until finished. I can 'attach' the file or the Word file of all my 'source material' if you wish.

Hello Colin....I have the full Wirksworth Parish records and census records..which include Alderwsasley.
There is is only one entry for McClunan and that is for;

CHARLES McCLUNAN born 13.03.1826 baptised 16.04.1826...son of William (Gamekeeper) and Eliza.

I am unable to find Eliza or any other children in Derbyshire.

I have, however got a full history for CHarles McLunan who was an Agent or Commercial traveller. (He died in Altrincham Cheshire in 1883.)

You may already have this, but I'll give it to you anyway:

In 1841 he was in Cheetham manchester..single. lodging.

Can't find him in 1815 but by 1861 he is at 25 Hill Street Moston manchester married to Elizabeth (probably nee SMethurst because there is as Father-in-law called Smethurst.

!871 and 1881 they are in Wilmslow and Alrincham Cheshire with a total of eight children.

Incidentally William and Eliza are also in Altrincham (William a retired gamekeeper.

I have the details of all the children if you want them.

But nowhere can i find Eliza daughter of William and Eliza, or any other children

All the best

Hi Colin........yes..I found her......largely due to the fact thet her mother was with her in herts on one of the censuses.(1891)........She married Edward Cain 12.07.1845 at Codicote Herts.......and lived a full and happy life in herts till 1901.........Her mother joined her after the Death of William in 1883.

Her marriage to Edward Cain includes her parents as WILLIAM and ELIZA.

Glad to have helped and thank you for your good wishes.

Hi Derek,
I have completed all the tributaries to the Hopkinson/Watkinson alliance but coming back to John Hopkinson marrying Ellen Jerrison 5.9.1807 Chesterfield I can only see

ELLEN GERISON
Christening: 12 AUG 1787 Old Brampton, Derby
Father: PETER GERISON

and it has no source!
John Hopkinson does not show up in IGI at all so I am totally reliant on your special knowledge, please.

Derek Report 22 Mar 2010 17:16

Hello francis..I have the Old brampton Parish records..and they confirm the birth of Ellen Gerison daughter of peter..12.08.1787

IGI has an EXTRACTED marriage of John Hopkinson to Hellen Gerison at Chesterfield 05.09.1807.

If this is "Chesterfield" as opposed to any one of several parishes around and about..the it will need me to visit the matlock Records Office.......but I have a lot of Records for some Cesterfield parishes..so i'll have a look around.....

Hi Derek! Have been browsing this thread and am hoping you may be able to help with a branch of my family from Derbyshire.

Am looking for any information on the family of Mary Ford born about 1904 possibly in Ridgeway ? (near Beighton). She may have had a brother - Alfred. Haven't done this before so have no idea if you can help or if I have given you the right info!

Mary married into the Grant family from Beighton and is my great grandmother. Sadly my grandmother passed away just before christmas and prior to that she was suffering from dementia so have very little info about her mother's family.

Hope you can help with this vague request!

Hello Janna.......I am awaiting delivery of the Ridgeway parish registers..but they only go up to 1906.

In the meantime..have you any evidence, or suspicion, that she may come from irish stock??

I have found MARY FORD 1902 Chesterfield..daughter of JOHN FORD from galway Ireland.and ANNIE nee SLATER.....Its a bit complicated because Annie married a Cosgrave befroe she married John..and John remarried after the `death of Annie in 1905.........this all took place in or near Chesterfield.

Does any of this ring a bell?? If not. I'll get back to you when I can view the Ridgeway registers

Hi Derek,

Thanks for the quick reply! No - there is no hint of any irish relations but that doesn't mean there aren't any! All I know about the Fords is atthe time Mary Ford married my great grandad the Fords owned / worked on a farm near ridgeway. My dad also says that the family used to talk a lot about a link to the Gypsy queen but I think that might just be becuase of the gypsy queen gravestone in the church!

Derek Report 24 Mar 2010 13:14

Hello again Yanna..........I have found your Mary Ford.
The Ridgeway registers will not be much good becasue they end at 1906.

However, i had on of my momnets and had a look at the 1911 census..Bingo!!

MARY FORD aged 7..daughter of CHARLES FORD and EMMA nee WALL

Charles was born at Blyborough Lincolnshire 1874 son of William and jane Ford. Emma was from Gainsborough b.1877 (haven't found her parents yet.(they married 26.06.1893 at Ridgeway)

In 1911 they are living at Castle Lodge Hackenthorpe Beighton and CHARLES FORD is a Farm Manager..and in 1911 has been married to Emma for 18 years..Mary was born at Ridgeway 1904

In 1881 Charles aged 7 is one of SEVEN children of WILLIAM FORD 1844 and his wife JANE..William is a shepherd at LOW FARM

In 1891 CHARLES FORD is working as a Farm Servant at Worksop

In 1901 he is married to Emma but still working away at High Lane Ridgeway

Haven't yet been able to find Emma in 1901..but I think she died at Ridgeway in 1913.

I cna go back and find the heritage of the Fords if you like, and give you Charels' siblings..but I doubt i can answer any queries about Mary's later life.

Derek.

Derek can you check these out for me please. I think this fella married 3 times but not positive need confirmation please.
Fella in question is George Measham born 1836 Repton. His father was William and his mother was Elizabeth Wootton. I have a source (another person's tree) that says he married Elizabeth Wood 1858, Eliza Hill 1874 then on 1901 census he appears with Miriam Foster married March 1897 and had daughter Gladys Many thanks

You are very lucky. The search I have starts in Northamptonshire and then south to Middlesex.

You are further north than that. I had a look at google maps.

Well us Aussies aren't very good at UK geography.

hi Pauline, We have scared him away. Oooh the researchers will be cross. Doesn't he do a marvelleous job. All those questions. Thanks for bringing a blanket. I've brought the picnic basket. There's only one hot cross bun left so the CPs will have to share.

Did you see Simon's question about Hannah Oliver. I might let Maz know one of her troublesome rellies might have escaped. Wonder if it is the same branch.

It's OK Simon. We are crazy but harmless. Well semi-harmless. We are nutters with wooden stirring spoons.
