I'd like to say thank you to everyone who took time to reply to my previous posting. I've since realised that it's not the Grandmother's name on the birth certificate, although it is a completely different first name, same last name, it's says 'Mother' beneath the name of informant.

I called the General Register Office and they said they had never come across that before but if it says 'Mother' beneath the signature of the informant then she must have been the Mother perhaps known by a different name.

The baby's name is Hilda, the mother's name in the column for parents is Elizabeth, the name of the informant is Hilda and beneath it says 'Mother.'

I at first assumed it was the grandmother but then realised that 'Mother' would surely have been corrected.

There is an address for the mother but not for the informant.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible check an electoral roll for 1935 on-line? I'm not in the UK.

thank you,
Susan
