Did Ada have any brothers and sisters? was Ada the eldest?
Prehaps we could find them in 1911...might lead to their mother.

Hi Folks
Many thanks for your help.
I know that Ada Lily Workmasn , was BORN in Dursley, Glos & MARRIED in Dursley Glos.
Births Dec 1899 Workman Ada Lily Dursley 6a 279
Married in Weslyan Memorial Church, Gloucs.29.03.1919 ( this info came, verbally, from Ada's granddaughter ).
I know that Joseph Workman ( born 1874) was her dad & that he was a dentist ( and the son of a Minister).
I was told ( by Ada's grandaughter) that Adas mother was called Mary.
I need to find the marriage between Joseph & Mary...... ( I know that they would have married , and Ada HAS the surname Workman.

You say "I need to find the marriage between Joseph & Mary...... ( I know that they would have married , and Ada HAS the surname Workman"
With all due respect - you only know what you have been told. You have no proof of the facts if you don't have Ada's birth certificate.
What is Your relationship to Ada please?
Does Ada's Grandaughter have proof that Ada's parents married?
If you know that Births Dec 1899 Workman Ada Lily Dursley 6a 279 is your Ada's birth then you need to buy the certificate.
Have you found her on the 1911 census? It has been shown that there is another Ada living with different Workman parents but so far there has been no Ada (1899) found either in 1901 or 1911 living with parents Joseph and Mary.
You need to buy that birth certificate to confirm the names of Ada's parents.

The only Ada L Workman born aroud the correct time in 1901 census is the same one as found in 1911 census

So this looks like the births for those two girls

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

So this rules out that Ada L as being your Ada.

Thanks Rootgatherer
You are right, I know that Ada Workmans father was a dentist ( and that his father was a minister ) - so the Ada that you have found in Birmingham, ( father is an Engine Importer) cannot be the correct Ada.
Also, even if my relative got the name Mary as her mother, wrong, Ada is definately the daughter of Joseph Workman and her birth name is Ada WORKMAN ( as here) and she was born in Dursley: Births Dec 1899 Workman Ada Lily Dursley 6a 279

As I dont yet have Ada's birth cert. and therefore I dont know for a fact that whether her parents were married or not, but I do know that her dad was Joseph Workman ( a dentist ) and that her birt name is Ada Lily Workman born 1899 - I have just had a thought............
If we have found the correct Jospeh Workman in London in the 1901 & 1911 census'.............where was Ada ? and Ada's mum?
Surely, if Ada was not with her dad, she would be somewhere else in 1901 & 1911............we still havent found her though?
( and she couldnt have been with that family in Birmingham- as they were 'workmans; and their Ada was shown as a daughter of the head ! ) So, if thats not here.....where is she
Plus the other 'fact' that I have is her marriage in Dursley......... Given that she was also born in Dursley..........it is quite probable, that she lived in Dursley as she was growing up?
Another fact that I have is that she ended her life living in Pontypridd, S.Wales.
Where is Ada Workman ( aged 1 / 2 ) in the 1901 census? Where is Ada Workman( aged 11 /12 ) in the 1911 census?
A mystery.......

You havn`t yet said wether Ada Lily had any siblings or not, and as shes your grandmother presumably you would know if she was an only child...... tracing any siblings may lead to Ada..........
.As Joseph is on his own in 1901 and 1911 would it be possible that they had seperated/divorced and Mary and Ada were in fact listed under a different surname?....maybe even Mary had remarried...?
I still think your first thing is to order Ada Lilys birth cert...... as this is your direct line you don`t want to be tracing back on the wrong line...

from lancs bmd (which obligigly give mother's maiden name if born in Chorley)
Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1869 WORKMAN Blanche Chorley HOSEGOOD
Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1871 WORKMAN Alice Maud Chorley Preston HOSEGOOD
so Joseph Workman senior (the minister) married Mary Hosegood
Marriages Sep 1865 (>99%) Workman Joseph Williton 5c 541 (Somerset)
Mary is missing from this transcription as she has been mistranscribed as p 341

for ref Ada's marriage
Marriages Mar 1919 (>99%) Nash James Workman Dursley 6a 476 Workman Ada L Nash Dursley 6a 476

Births Sep 1873 (>99%) WORKMAN Joseph Holywell 11b 267
