Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 Oct 2009 18:31

This is interesting you know I mentioned a Fishmonger in a back posting, well I have found a Frederick Farey with father Robert Farey born Ireland and above his name is a Rebecca Farey born Buckingham who is 67 a widow and a General Dealer. Now this Rebecca is not on the form with Robert but there is brackets round the bit where the address is. It says by the address Image from Provider.

1871 England Census
about Frederick Farey
Name: Frederick Farey

Estimated Birth Year: abt 1863
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Robert
Mother's Name: Mary Ann

Civil parish: Poplar All Saints

County/Island: London
Country: England
Registration district: Poplar
Sub-registration district: Poplar
ED, institution, or vessel: 22

Household Members: Name Age
Robert Farey 37
Mary Ann Farey 40
Frederick Farey 8

There is nothing with the bit to find out who else is on the page.

What I have so far for definate:

Sarah Alice Mileson married Frederick James Farey and It was registered in 1925.

May Winifred was born with the surname Mileson, she was born in 1905 on 28 Sophia Rd. In 1929 she was registered again with the surname name Farey. Her fathers address was Frederick Rd in 1929.

Christina Alice was born in 1903, with the surname Mileson. She married with the surnane Farey however theres no evidence of her being registered as a Farey.

Sarah Rebecca was born in 1901 with the surname Mileson, also when she married she had the surname farey, but no evidence of her changing her name.

Well I think it is worth buying some birth certs and say with mother Sarah Alice and see what transpires.

I have posted the transcription of the 1911,also the births of Walter and Frederick MILESON/Farley/facey.

Now there is only Honouria to find I think.
And she is down as 3 on 1901,so a 1897/8 birth?

Also if they say they have been together 17 yrs on 1911 we wont find them together on 1891,so Fedora?1890 is whose child?

LOL!
Come to think of it actually.. one of my other ancestors on another side did end up marrying their servant.. I guess anything could happen!

I'm starting to think these other kids now were the big family secret.. is there any sort of baptism for them or anything that could give somthing away?

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 11 Oct 2009 18:02

Just because they SAY they have been married 17 yrs on 1911 does not mean its true.
What else would they have put down back then

Been living in sin for 17 yrs???

Then been villified by the neighbours if it leaked out.
Not on your Nellie would they admit to not being married.

The other thing you often see with unmarried folk on census with kids is that the MAN describes his live in lover as a HOUSEKEEPER!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 Oct 2009 18:01

That could have been a lie to cover the fact they were not married. Some couples only married when the children wanted to get married.

Have you got the transcription for the 1911 census?

Talie

Talie Report 11 Oct 2009 17:55

That's a good point, I did come across that once before. But didn't the 1911 census say they were married for 17 years? That would of made the elder children born in wedlock and born with the name Farey/ farcy rather than mileson?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 Oct 2009 17:44

When you look at the 1901 census it could read Fiodora.

They could have just said they were man and wife for the census and been living together for years. After all who would know in those times unless they had to show their marriage lines. It is not unusual in a lot of families I have searched for other people. Don't forget the childrens births are under Mileson.

Talie Report 11 Oct 2009 17:32

Really strange..
everyone living + my nan who died the other year said there were just 3 kids born from Frederick and Sarah mileson. and Sarah & frederick on the index got married in 1925.. everyone just assumed that all the kids were born out of wedlock which made sence from the marriage year.

but now.. Sarah and frederick being married from the start and having 5 kids?! really strange stuff that just doesn't add up. Maybe something to do with this was the "family disgrace" that may winifred would never speak of.

Feodora.. now somthing about the Dora part rings a bell back from when my nan told me about the family..

Tidal Basin in west ham apparently was hit by a bomb during the war, perhaps the 1925 registation of Frederick and Sarahs marriage was a reregistation after their there marriage certificate got destoyed? Maybe these other kids besides May, christina and Sarah had somthing to do with the disgrace, maybe they were kids from a previous marriage or from adultry?

Honoria is now the big mystery, only birth is in west derby to suit under Farley and its not her as I have followed that one, and her parents on 1911 and 1901 are James and Ellen.

Thanks Mel..
But I have already learnt to look on FMP 1911 only when I think I have found them on 1911 official site as FMP are C....,I mean rubbish with their search facility.

This is defiently going somewhere!
I have the address down as 28 Sophia rd, so it's very possible after she had the 3 sisters they moved a few doors down.

One thing I don't quite get, is Honioa and Walter? They've never been mentioned before.. my great uncle is still alive and he knew this family and he only knew of christina, sarah and May. My nan told me stuff as well and there was never a honioa and walter to our knowledge.

*be right back me mothers making me wash up*
