Ian Report 7 Oct 2009 23:18

This gentleman is my Great Grandfathers brother Walter Pearson
He was Born on 13 JAN 1838 in Brixton, Surrey. and died on 7 June 1878 Shanghai, China.
I understand that most of the consult records were destroyed in a fire.
Consular Death Indexes: (1876-1880 deaths) Walter Pearson, Shanghai, Vol 6 page 291.
The Hull Packet and East Riding Times (Hull, England), Friday, August 2, 1878; Deaths: Pearson: June 7, suddenly, at Shanghai, China, Walter Pearson, son of the late Robert Pearson, of London, and grandson of the late John Brodrick, of Hull.
I have found out that he worked in or as the Commercial Consulate. There are references in family Wills that he was in uniform. Naval or Army I do not know.
Somebody in the shanghai Consulate did find out that Walter’s death was reported in the Chinese newspapers at the time. They said his death was at his home and for many years he worked as Secretary to the General Chamber of Commerce.

I would be interested to receive any info any body can kindly find on him. Shipping records local news papers etc.

Regards

Ian Pearson
