hi you know where and when he died .local paper (copies usually in that local library ) are worth a look .my gggrandfather was born in ireland in 1837 .found out when and where he died .looked through local paper for area he died in (obituary section) to my surprise i found his obituary and got lots of info said where he was born in ireland ect.. time consuming but worth a try ..regards keith

thats all the info i have no idea where to look
i have been told that no passenger lists exist because they were classed as ferries and some came over on any kind boat they could find.

hi have you tried brsgenealogy it is a good site for irish ancestors .not all counties on yet but hopefully will be eventualy .good luck keith

Have you been able to establish when he was born ? Is it still approximately 1815-1817 ? When I looked into my Irish roots I found quite a bit very easily but I knew where they were from. The census and records I looked at were through the county library and were completely free to view.
By no means an expert on these things but do passenger lists exist for travelling to Uk from Eire ?? He must have been quite young when he left. Not sure from the info on the thread how you know his father's name .Is it from the marriage cert? Is he on English census 1841 ?
Am going to do a bit of googling and will come back if I get anywhere

Have you found him on census records? Is his birth place always just listed as Ireland?

If you give his name here then there is a chance that someone will be able to help.

Any help please. ... Nicholas Powell.
gggrandfather from Ireland not known where. born about 1815-17. Married an Elizabeth Sheldon from bilston staffs.Then moved to Whitwood castleford west yorks.Died there in 1887.How can i find out where he came from.???
His father was james powell again born ireland . dont know where or when.
