HUge thanks for this, however, I don't think it is the right Mary I Amer (although I can't imagine there are many as it's not a common name!) |

OK, having spent the mornng talking this over with my parents, it now seems that the family was more complicated than we originally thought. |

Does he recognise any of the names? |

|
Kirsteen | Report | 2 Jun 2010 19:49 |
I'm afraid he doesn't recognise any of them. He always referred to Mary as "aunt" and to realise that she may be a relative in the family somehow and not an aunt is quite shocking! |

OK sometimes when we hit upon something surprising like this it is better to re establish the basics. Which one is your grandfather? |

My grandfather is James Claire Amer born 1917. We always thought Mary was his elder sister, but it seems we were wrong!! |

Wow! It looks very likely as the mothers name is right - again we thought she was older than my grandad! |

Hi, sorry yes we worked out that he did eventually marry Margaret and if we're right, Catherine Eccles died in1930 so he was free to marry ( we therefore assumed he didn't divorce Catherine reason unknown!) |

Divorce was not readily available in those days. Too expensive. |
