My ggg grandfather Peter McCartney was a plater in the shipyards of Newcastle on Tyne and he apparently went over to Belfast for a while & possibly worked on the ill fated Titanic. It is rumoured that he fathered a child while there, despite having several children, and grandchildren, back in Newcastle already! His trade was known as a 'Plater' and they made the keels of the ships. If anyone is trying to track an unknown father from Newcastle, this may be him.
Cheers
