Mary Cowell a 22 of Lower Pitt St father John (can't read occupation)

witnesses George Cowell & ? Dewhirst

difficult to reconcile Adam an engineer with Adam a pawnbroker!

from that marriage record it does look like Mary was born 1868/69. I wonder if she lied about her father and she was actually illegitimate.

Will look at marriage of Adam & Mary Cowell in 1868 (St John's Preston) to see what his occupation was next time I go to LRO.

There was no baptism of a Mary Stevenson c1868 at St John's but did not look for a Mary Cowell to see if she was born before the marriage.

Did find this eath though on freebmd which might fit

just looked at marriage register for James & Mary on 24 July 1888 St Lawrence church Longridge

father Adam is described as deceased and a pawnbroker

Mary is definitely Mary Theresa age 19 of Ribchester & James is age 40 (widower)

witnesses William Walton & Ellen Gregson

maybe it is time to look at parish registers for the baptism

if you have not resolved this in the next month let me know as I can go to the lancs records office but not until end sept/beginning oct

I think you need to dig out that cert. Her parents can't be the Adam and Mary listed earlier because she was born before the marriage and they had a daughter Mary about 10 years younger than your Mary.

Thats them, yes. Sorry, joseph was married in blackburn but was not born there.

Strange when I put Joseph Bradshaw 1896-+ 1 born either Blackburn or Dilworth it comes up no match

had difficulty finding Joseph but mmn mistranscribed

Are you sure her father is Adam? You did saw you had misplaced the marriage cert.

That is the family Rose. I think the Mary E bit may be a mistake because if you look at the original census it looks like a T.
Also on their marriage certificate it is Theresa.

Joseph was born in 1895 in Blackburn, Lancashire (on the 1911 census it states he was born in Dilworth, Lancashire).
His father was James Bradshaw born 1847 in dilworth, lancashire.
His mother was Mary Theresa Stevenson, born in Preston.
James had been married before and several children from his previous wife but with Mary Theresa they had- George b. 1890, John b. 1892, and Bertie b.1900.
On the census it looks as though James was 19 years older than Mary Theresa.
On their marriage certificate, there is still the age difference and Mary's father is noted as Adam Stevenson.
I have traced the Bradshaw line back and i have been getting a bit confused with Mary Theresa.
