hello
Can anyone point me in the direction of the legislation governing marriages around 1880? I have a johan echeho from germany who married a mary barkley in 1880.

Did this mean becouse he was married he was alllowed to stay? did he have to register before he was married? or was marriage his passage to staying here. no censsus or record of him before 08/06/1880 in liverpool

Please note I have a very large thread on this so if responses could go onthir that would be great.just want to know what the law was and if it may give me a clue how to find JOhan before 1880 :)
