Is anyone visiting the National Archives in Kew shortly & would be willing to try & look up a WW1 Medal Roll for me ?
I am trying to trace which battalion my Great Grandfather was in.
I know he was in The Queens Regiment (West Surrey). His regiment no was T/242112. His name was Private Gilbert Henry Thompson b 1896 in Bristol.
He earned the Victory & British medal E/1/101B244683. I understand that the medal rolls at the National Archives detail which battalion each soldier was in. Any other records that anyone can find would also be greatly received.
I believe he was shot in action, recovered & then returned to war. Family rumour is that he was returning on leave by train & was involved in a train accident in which he broke his foot, he was subsequently pensioned out of the army on medical grounds.
All help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
