I just wanted to share with you. spoke to my nan and she said both percy and josiphine died before the children. The children were taken into care and yes it was a boy john?? and the girl no idea. She remembers trying to get the children to live with her and her dad but during those times it was frowd upom. My nan had to get a court permission to stay with her dad and her dad felt that fighting for the two kids could have put her placement with her dad in danger.

my nan was very sad they had to go to an ophanage and to read they MAY still be alive is a real suprise to her.. so thank you again its made my nan very happy 2night. she did tell me the orphanage they want too was ashbey homes it was a little lane of gammons lane in north watford.
tthank you again!

That is lovely Elizabeth.

Keep us posted.

Might there be court records or divorce reords? Iched on find my past for the divorce but nothing as yet,

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 7 Aug 2009 22:32

i am having a rest now :) a bit of wine. In regards to the divorce it was in the same year my nan was 16 so it was 1947 By all accounts it was a nighmare that many years ago becouse you did have to attend court. They went to london I beleive.

also just out of intersted my nan got married at 23/9/1950. My nan tells me she had to go back to court to get permission to marry?? another story for me to add to my tree.. but now a rest and a glass of wine.

thank you again i am so appreciative of your help x

So what is the name change.

If he was of German origin he may have changed it in the lead up to WW1

Come on spill the beans.

Mary

Mary Report 8 Aug 2009 14:27

I found it by accident,I noticed all the hagar's born in Liverpool in the search facility and there was a Joan and Janet hagar with the same people in their trees.
I tried to find your thread and in where it says enter keyword at the top of this page i put Hagar and it came up with a thread about john Eckho changing his name to hagar.
So then i went through info on Ancestry and found all the children born to John and his wife Mary Ellen.
Johnan Eckeho married mary ellen Barkley in Liverpool 1880.
I had also been checking war records and saw henry hagar born 1898 Liverpool and William H Hagar born 1888 Liverpool and his mums name was Mary Ellen so put 2 and 2 together .
I'am glad you have contacted some one on here about them.
I must say I love a mystery, especially with a good result like this one.

Take care Mary.

A mystery indeed! Now the fact my nan had NO idea about ther german connection or the change of name. As christines says it sounds like he changed it just before the war. Makes sense...

Know its killing me.. why change it to Hagar?? ? maybe i will never solve this part of the mystery. It has certanly got me obsessed in my history :) so that has got to be good!

christine.. the list you copied me.. is that the same mum and dad? becouse the spelling of the second name is incorret? They did have an ellen but cant find a hannah??... mm the name was johna echeho.

i am wondering echeho...haga mmmmmmmm
thanks again a wealth of knewledge!
