To Joanne, I am stuck on a number of things would appreciate it if you can help.

looking for marriage of John Shaw born1786 to Mary ? born 1796 He was born in Belton Thorne area of Lincolnshire they had a son called John born 1823 in Belton and his wife was Mary born 1828 I do not know her surname or place of birth.

HELLO jOANNE, i AM new to this research thing and would really appreciate some tips. How do I get access to parish records and how do I get information 1790 .I am researching Shaw family and have managed (with help) to find a link as far back as John Shaw born 1786 married Mary ?? she was born1796 they would be from Lincolnshire I think.

Hi Ladies,

OK, here is all the information I have. ....Ralph Hartley born Manchester 17/05/1893. Father John Hartley and mother Mary Hartley formerly Buckley.(I have the birth cert.) and I know all the details are correct as they tie up with Ralph's war record..............He had a daughter (my mother) born Tower Hill, Stroud 28/01/1913. Mothers name Jane Kathleen Hartley formerly Jackson father given as Ralph Hartley the informant was Jane Kathleen. I also have a marriage cert. between a Ralph Hartley and a Jane Kathleen Pegg on 30/01/1912 Ralph was 21 and Jane Kathleen was 20. Batchelor and Spinster. Living in Swindon fathers names given are Thomas Hartley and Samuel Pegg (deceased) so any marriages we are looking for are before 1913 when my mother was born (well you'd like to think so) which makes the 1912 Hartley and Pegg seem a possibility unless of course they never married. On Ralph's CWGC he died in action 1917 his parents are given as John and Mary and his wife as Jane Kathleen Hartley.

Well ladies that is all the information I have, any suggestions.

I am truly so very, very grateful for all the time you have given to me, it is very much appreciated.

Mary, can I suggest you post all the details on the marriage certificate of Ralph Hartley and Jane K Pegg, including fathers' occupations and whether the fathers were still alive.

'starr1' - a query - do you think it is worth Mary posting this information on a separate thread so that others can 'have a go'?

I suspect this thread is being left alone as it was posted by Joanna offering help.

Hi Choccy, Mary again, just been looking at the marriage and the date of marriage is 1912 and Jane's age is given as 20 so I guess that would make her born about 1892 and Ralph's is given as 21 so that would be right for him, Jane's father is given as Samuel Pegg, does this help.

That's amazing, I actually have a marriage cert. (which I have always dismissed as not mine) for a Ralph Hartley to a Jane Kathleen Pegg but, as it said formerly Jackson on the birth cert. I thought it was the wrong one, can you explain it to me please, sorry to take up so much of your time but, I'm really excited asbout all this.....I originally ordered this marriage cert. back in 2002 so that's how long I have been looking.

Hi, I am looking for an Edward Frederick Butler I don't know the exact year he was born in but I am guessing around 1890 as his daugther was born in 1916, so he should be certainly on the 1901 census. Both his wife and daughter were born in Romford, Essex so he might have been born around there himself. Any help would be great!

I have only a birth cert. for Ralph. His parents are given as John Hartley and a Mary Hartley formerly Buckley. Ralph died at in 1917 in Ypres during active service. On his CWGC the only other information is..... .son of Mary and John Hartley and husband of Jane Kathleen Hartley of 10 Penn Street, St. Paul's, Bristol. I have my mothers birth cert. (Ralph was her father) and her mother is given as Jane Kathleen Hartley formerly Jackson.

That's everything I have on him and I'm desperate to find out more.

I don't know why but, I think you are on the right track.........what do you think??
